Thunder Dragon 2
this is a really damn good song
the problem here is that it’s one song. and 12 variations of it. :\
oh well, still dig that slap bass.

Three Wonders
did you think multicarts were only found on consoles? think again!
the composition overall is what I’d describe as competent. “Don’t Pull” uses several stock tunes, including the William Tell Overture, but is otherwise cutesy saccharine nonsense.
Midnight Wanderer Roosters alternates between heroic orchestral and tense boss music
Chariot is the closest anything comes to a prog flavor, again a lot thanks to the boss tunes.
“Chariot - Stage 4 (Asteroid)” is a good example tune here, and it’s not even actual boss music!
Truxton II
this has some of the tightest drums I’ve heard from an arcade game.
overall though, it’s a very hit/miss thing for me... “Stage 2 "I Defend STM"” is an absolute must-hear though!
GunMaster - PA187
GunMaster - PA187
GunMaster is a December 1994 arcade exclusive game developed by Metro Corporation. It’s a single or two-player boss rush action game that’s part fighting game and part platformer; think a dash of Gunstar Heroes with a Neo Geo art style. The game uses well-established combo of soundchips: the OKIM6295 for 4 channels of ADPCM and the YM2151 for 8 channels of FM audio. Metro Corporation is best…

Plus Alpha - PA185
We’ve got a really fun soundtrack to dive into in this episode from a Jaleco arcade title released in 1989 called Plus Alpha, composed by Tsukasa Tawada. It’s an overhead shooter similar to Twinbee, Raiden, or 1942/43 and was released on the Nintendo Switch in 2020 under the Arcade Archives series published by HAMSTER Corporation. Tsukasa Tawada brings lots of variety in this soundtrack, which…

Tecmo Knight
kind of ok except for the weirdly detuned synths?
uhh, hmm
try “Ending” shows what im talking about, and it’s a halfway decent song besides the detuning.
The King of Dragons
this is really solid all around. the sound design is lovely, and the arrangements are super strong
i had to look this up but: this composer is Yoko Shimomura --the same personw ho did the music for Super Mario RPG and the Kingdom Hearts series. no wonder I’m digging this, haha!
I’m not sure which track to highlight, but I will say that it’s obvious this is a good soundtrack by the time you reach “Player Select”.
this gets a rec.
