Sometimes all it takes is one person to change your life. A stranger, a friend, a lover. One person could be the light into your life that you so desperately seek. For as long as you could remember, life had never been fair to you. You were involuntarily a lone wolf; you had always been made fun of and bullied for no reason. People seemed to be embarrassed to be your friend. No matter how hard you tried to fit in and make friends, it never worked.
It made no sense to you. You had always been nice to everyone you met. You put so much effort into trying to change the hand you had been dealt by life. You never gave up, even on the toughest days. You always told yourself, it’s going to get better eventually. One day I’ll have a real friend and this will all be behind me. You wore a fake smile every day, in hopes someone would come around and give you a chance.
One day, someone finally did: Okuyasu. He was different from the rest. He didn’t care that others didn’t want to be your friend. Even when you tried to warn him people may bully him if he befriends you, he didn’t care. When he was around, things were different. They were better. The harassment ceased after he befriended you. From the beginning of your friendship, he made an effort to really get to know you. You two had similar personalities and instantly connected. He had started to change your life for the better day by day.
You were so grateful for his friendship, but you didn’t know what you did to deserve it. He had done so much for you, did he even realize it? You had been sitting on these thoughts all day when finally, lunch time came around and you were eating with Oku. “Why do you even care about me?” you smiled, holding back tears. “I’m nothing more than a loser.”
“Don’t say that!” he gasped, “That’s not true at all…You’re a really cool guy!” You could see he was putting up a strong front, trying to hold back the sadness he felt from your statement. He put his lunch down and scooted next to you, giving you a soft side hug.
“I know it hasn’t been easy for you…” His voice cracked, “I’m sorry no one ever gave you a chance before. But you’re the best bro someone could ask for! It’s their loss for discrediting you.” His words made your heart feel like it could burst from happiness. “I can see how much effort you put in every single day. You’ve always been friendly to everyone, despite how they treated you. You’ve always done your best to be a good person, even when the odds were stacked against you. You’re so strong and brave for that, dude. I admire you.”
Okuyasu was the best friend you could have ever asked for and you felt so lucky to have this bond with him. Even if he was your only friend, you felt like you didn’t need another friend as long as you had him. It meant the world to you to be recognized by him, to have your struggles acknowledged. You were no longer alone in this life and you finally felt validated.
You were currently strolling through the streets of the lovely city you called home, Morioh. The cool breeze and bright sunny day matched your attitude as you were all smiles and skipping about. Classes were currently out for the summer as you wore a light dress that fluttered in the wind and sandals that matched. You thought over what you were going to do today but couldn't come up with anything interesting. Maybe you would go and take some reference photos for Rohan or get some candy since you were craving those."(Y/N)-chan!" You turned around as you were met with some of your fellow classmates. It's been a while since you've seen any of them. They were probably all holed up at home gaming as you thought back to Josuke. "Koichi, it's nice to see you!" You greeted as you both exchanged a hug. "Do you have anything planned for the rest of the day?" He asked, joining you in your stroll as you both walked through the park. "Hmm" You tossed the thought around in your mind as you admired the blooming flowers. They would make some great reference photos since they were vibrant colors. "Not really." You laughed. "Would you like to go to Josuke's home to play video games with me?" He asked kindly as he picked a flower for his girlfriend. It was a cute gesture and it made you smile. It would clearly make Yukako happy. "Sure why not?" You replied.
You followed Koichi to Josuke's neighborhood, small talk being exchanged here and there. "Oh, Koichi! Hold on." You stopped in front of a mini-mart as you saw that your favorite candy was in stock. He looked a bit confused as he followed you inside the store. The cool air from the air conditioner greeted you both along with the chime from the doorbell signaling there was customers to the staff. Koichi remained close by as you hovered over the aisle of snacks and candy. You picked out a box of Cookies n Creme Pocky candy as Koichi got some chocolate pandas for himself. You both walked over to the register, greeting the cashier as you handed him your items. After paying for it, you and Koichi walked to Josuke's house.
"(Y/N)-chan?" Koichi said breaking the silence. "Yes, Koichi-kun?" You replied as he stopped and you did as well. "Do you like anyone?" He said quizzingly. You hummed out a "hmm" as you thought about all the boys you knew at school and the ones that were in your small circle as well. Out of all of them, one particular guy stood out. One with a designer uniform and that was very brash. Your lips turned upward slightly as the thought of him always made you smile but you repressed it for now. It wasn't the time and you weren't sure if he liked you back. So you were waiting for an opportunity. "I'm not really sure, I wouldn't mind getting to know someone, however." You finally answered as he nodded, but it seems like he was looking for a name as he looked forward at the path, his brows furrowed. Regardless, you two continued your route as you were coming up to Josuke's household. You glance at Okuyasu's house and wave to his father which was out on the porch. He waved back to you and you smiled to yourself. "Here we are!" You look at Josuke's home and Koichi opens the door for you.
"Josuke-kun!" You hollered with Koichi as both of you entered the front door. "Upstairs!" you heard him call from somewhere in the house. "Come on!" Koichi grabbed your arm as he dragged you to the stairs. "Why's everyone yelling?!" You heard Josuke's mom, Tomoko, call from the kitchen. "Sorry!" All three of you shout. "It's okay!" She shouts back. Koichi and you started laughing as you near the top of the stairs. "What took you guys so long?" Josuke asked, opening the door to let you in. "I stopped by to buy some snacks," you show Josuke the box of Pocky. "Koichi-kun!" Yukako literally sweeps her boyfriend off his feet in a tight embrace. "I missed you too Yukako."
You smile at the couple before Josuke grabs your arm and moves you near his closet. "Hey, why don't we play a game?" He called out to everyone. "Oh, that's a great idea!" The others agreed with you. "What game are we even going to play?" At this instance, he opens the closet and shoves you in. "7 minutes of heaven!" "W-" you tried to reach onto anything to stop yourself from hitting the floor. Instead, you're met with a buff torso and arms that hold you up. "Oi, (Y/N) are you alright?" You look up at the familiar gruff voice. "Oi Okuyasu!" You smiled at him and he smiled back. His smile faltered and turned into a look of astonishment as he grabbed a box that was in your pocket. "OI IS THIS POCKY?!" You covered your ears and nodded. An idea crossed your mind as you snatched the box back and gave him a slick smile. "Oi Oku, wanna play a game?" He nodded urging you to continue. You open the box and take out a single pocky. "Whoever eats this first can have all the pocky." You kept smiling as you go to put one end in your mouth. What you weren't expecting (or maybe you were if you know him) was him coming close to your face and snatching the pocky, eating it all. "I WIN!" You had a look of shock on your face at what just happened. He grabbed the box and began eating them one by one.
He looked at you and then smiled. "I'm just kidding!" He hands you a pocky and kisses you on the lips. You were surprised but you let it slide as you grab his jacket and kiss him once again. At the same time, the closet door flew open as Josuke starts screaming that you two were actually kissing while Koichi and Yukako were cheering you two on.
