Palace Told It’ll Take £8 Million To Land 23-Year-Old Target
Crystal Palace have been told that they will have to part with £8 million if they are serious about signing Benfica winger Ola John this summer.
Following on from the Eagles’ recent capture of French international Yohan Cabaye, Alan Pardew is thought to be keen to secure one or two more top quality signings at the very least, but with John’s valuation perhaps coming as something of a surprise, we may well see the club’s interest cool in him in the coming days.
Whilst both Wilfried Zaha and Yannick Bolasie are both more than capable of scaring defences across the Premier League throughout the season, there remains a lack of quality cover for them on the bench, which explains Pardew’s readiness to bring in another quality option on the wing before the new season begins.
Still only 23, the Dutchman has obvious potential to progress in the years to come, but without a guaranteed starting place for him should the aforementioned pair remain at Selhurst Park for the foreseeable future, he may be a tad reluctant to make the switch without assurances from the management staff in SE25 about his opportunities for playing time over the next few months.
Having started his career with FC Twente and spent a chunk of the 2013/14 season on loan with Hamburg in Germany, John has seen a fair bit of football in his first few years as a professional, but as we all know, the step up in intensity to the English Premier League can catch plenty of players out in their first months.
Should there be any further developments on this front, we’ll be sure to let you know.
