Deep Snow Is Good
Took Olaf to the dog park, and then like an evil person kept thowing his ball way off the packed trail and into the deep snow. He was bounding through stuff that was deeper than he was tall. He is now very tired and a good boy.

Deep Snow Is Good
Took Olaf to the dog park, and then like an evil person kept thowing his ball way off the packed trail and into the deep snow. He was bounding through stuff that was deeper than he was tall. He is now very tired and a good boy.
Olaf was at the parents house yesterday afternoon
Thus, even though it is totally not dinner time, he is CONVINCED it’s dinner time because dad always succumbs to his adorable wiles and feeds him 2 hours early.
Olaf is home alone, because it’s COLD.
Last time he was home alone at my parents place, he turned on their stove and scorched the dickens out of their leftover fajitas. There was chicken fajita char. I think I’ve successfully Olaf proofed MY stove, but we’ll see if I have a cabin to go home to tonight.
Good Grief, Olaf!
So, I took Olaf to the lakes for the first time in a bit, because it’s a good place for him to run off leash.
Or, it usually is. It’s bordered on two sides by the Tanana River and one side by a lake that connects to the river.
Anyway, I forgot:
The time of year
So, yeah.
Olaf found a salmon skin of roughly 20x4 inches with mostly intact fins. He then proceeded to scarf it down as fast as he could (no chewing because he can’t run and chew and he correctly assumed that if he stopped running to chew I’d catch up and take it away from him).
So, now I get to watch him like a hawk for 2 weeks (or until he starts showing symptoms) to make sure that:
Whatever remaining vertebrae and small bones were in the fin/tail successfully pass through his system without causing problems
He didn’t pick up any live Neorickettsia flukes in whatever remaining flesh might have been on the skin (which I don’t think there was much flesh, but paranoia paranoia)
He didn’t pick up anything else from eating a half dessicated/half rotted large bit of fish carrion.
The boy got stuck on leash about 10 seconds too late to prevent ingestion. :( And then, from the confines of his leash, he had to walk past at least 3 more skins and a head (mostly skull) that he really, really wanted.
Who's a big yellow fool who ran off and crossed a major highway today? Olaf is! Safely found and home. He has one well deserved little scrape on his leg, but he wasn't hurt and he didn't cause any accidents, and at least the Steese is a 2 lane and not 4 where he crossed to go explore.
For his belated birthday, Olaf an I took the parent's pooch Gus up Angel Rocks. It's a 3.5 mile steep trail a hair less than 50 miles outside Fairbanks proper, with gorgeous views an fun rocks to climb on.
Happy "Closest Estimated Date" Birthday, Olaf! You are now officially an adult doggie, at two years old. :)
My dog is a goof
He’s chasing a fly throughout my parents living room. And dining room. He’s following it everywhere. *snap*
