Skylark Lounge Reopens, and Fans Debate the Changes
Skylark Lounge Reopens, and Fans Debate the Changes
Giving a boost to the start of 2022, the Skylark Lounge reopened on New Year’s Eve. Nathaniel Rateliff, longtime friend Bob Ashby and Chris Tetzeli, co-founder of 7S Management (the company that manages Nathaniel Rateliff & the Nights Sweats and many other acts), had purchased the venerable venue in June 2021 from longtime owner Scott Heron, who was ready to pursue new things. The Neighborhood Feel
Once upon a time, I lived in a what now seems a mythical city. This city wasn’t respected, wasn’t really considered much of a city at all. It had the reputation for being a cow town, and in many ways, it was a town, or rather, a town of towns. Each neighborhood was self-sufficient with schools, stores, libraries, all within walking distance. Crime was negligible because people in each town knew…

Denver
I know I didn’t grow up in your house
But I’ve been your foster for years
And you decided to adopt me 1 year former
I walk your halls like they are my own now
And sometimes I feel like I appreciate you more than the kids who have been under your wings for an enternity.
The old Denver too.
Back when the royal motel on Colorado Blvd was still open and I loved it then more than I do now.
And when Larimer had no murals and was empty warehouse
Staples in time
I just wanna say thank you.
For treating me like one of your own.
Your sun always puts on a show
dusk and dawn
A timeless good morning good night
And your mountains all ways smile
Just the right way too
They don’t show off
They smile knowing exactly where they stand
No facade
Just barefaced blemished with trees
Until snows
And that is the biggest glow up you’ll ever see.
Oddfellows Hall Union Lodge No. 1
The Oddfellows are a faternal organization similar to the Shriners and Freemasons (though not as popular). Though origionally started in Great Britian, a schism occured between American Oddfellows and their European counterparts. Thus the "Independent Order of Odd Fellows" was formed.
Built in 1889, this was the first Oddfellow lodge to be built in the region. Located on 15th and Champa, the lodge was smack dab in the center of the newly forming capital city. Today the building is no longer used by the Oddfellows, but instead by local businesses and restaurants. Though, there are still artifacts from the organization, such as the stained glass window on the second floor.
