In the '88 season, Billy Ripken randomly wrote "Fuck Face" on the bottom of his BP bat with a Sharpie... so he could quickly find it on the rack. Little did he know it would end up on a baseball card. The production team for '89 Fleer overlooked it and, a PR disaster was created. Boxes of Fleer were flying off the shelves. They had to fix it fast, which led to a number of variations that also became collectables: they double printed it... blurred it out... scribbled it out in white... scribbled it out in black... and finally just started boxing it out.
