“Ai- Easy, Zelda-” Link complained with an indignant huff as she pressed the heel of her palm into the muscles of his lower back, only to yelp when she did it harder.
“This is what you get for doing too much, now hold still!” She snapped, rubbing the ointment into his skin to help relieve the pain and stiffness that had materialized overnight. “I keep trying to tell you that you’re no spritely young knight anymore and what do you do? You go climbing trees to rescue kittens instead of getting your very capable son to do it for you.”
“It was faster for me to just do it myself- Hey!” Link said and Zelda flicked his ear with her free hand.
“You made me push your heifer ass, moose children out of my body and you keep acting like they don’t exist.” Zelda fussed at him and LInk, unable to keep a straight face, got flicked again.
“Old habits die hard. In this case they’ll die when I do.” Link said, the smile lines in his face pulling tight as Zelda rolled her eyes, swiping a silver strand of hair behind her ear.
“You’re impossible!” Zelda groaned, exasperated and Link chuckled.
“You used to like that about me if I’m remembering correctly-” Link said and Zelda scowled dryly at him.
“You used to not throw your back out every other week too.” Zelda countered and Link laughed, but winced a little before sighing.
“Does it really bother you that I still like playing Hero sometimes?” Link asked, turning to look at his wife. He still remembered how she looked at him that day in Hyrule Field and even though she was nearing 70 now, she was still just as lovely and radiant… Just a little cranky when he got himself into trouble.
Zelda took a deep breath and shook her head.
“I just don’t want you to get so hurt that you’re bed bound for any length of time. You’d drive me crazy because you’d not have anything to do except tell me seal puns.” Zelda said and Link burst out into laughter that was mixed with small pained noises.
“That poor Gerudo was never the same-” Link croaked out after a moment and Zelda continued shaking her head, trying to hide the slight smile rising onto her face.
“Who would have guessed we put the actual Calamity into the Shrine?” Zelda questioned jokingly and Link continued to laugh.
“Well, I think the Master Sword would disagree with you about me being the Calamity, but- I did cause quite a bit of destruction didn’t I?” Link mused, chuckling and Zelda gave him a wry look, one brow arched high.
“You certainly destroyed part of my sanity.” She said as she turned back away to put the medicine away. Link practically howled until his back ached so hard he had to force himself to stop.
