Her name is Harlequin Dream (stable name Jade). She is 22 yrs old. She’s a warmblood cross. Unfortunately she suffers from Cushings disease (age related diseases) which weakens her immune system which then causes other medical problems. In March this year we started to notice the skin on Jade’s hind Pastern, fetlock and cannon bone was very red and feeling hot. Her fur started to fall out around the area in clumps. It then started oozing a sticky liquid. Our vet gave her antibiotics and a steroid cream but when it failed to respond she came out and took a skin sample to see exactly what bacteria we were dealing with and to target it with the correct antibiotics. It appeared to be working and then started to flare up again. As the particular bacteria concerned was known to be resistant to most antibiotics the vet then decided to treat with medical grade Manuka honey. This did start to heal the wound but was irritating the skin because of its stickiness and it was also attracting the flies and so was starting to deteriorate again. This is when my friend recommended her Silver Whinnys and the rest is history. Her skin is improving day by day.
