There’s something down there. One of the Paranormal Investigation majors managed to make it past the gate. She chained it back up on her way out, as one does, but what she had seen made her a little too quiet from that point on, and she took the next semester off to contemplate even finishing school, or to maybe change majors altogether. Still living in the dorms, but more out of not knowing where else to go. Some of her friends thought she had just fallen into a low spot, and sure, depression can do that to a person, but almost never like this. In truth, the dorms were probably the safest place to be, for all the souls that live there, all the wards, the living majicks of the building itself… There are Places in the world that are neither here nor there. These places belong to the Gentry. There are also spots that are not there. Voids. Absent places. Locations that defy man’s concept of “unimaginable”. Places that hide themselves well enough away from the world and all the things in it. And there is power there. A power that grows, that breathes, that fills the entirety of the Void. The gate at the mouth of the cave network is older than the hill itself. The Iron bars are old, aged beyond memory, but they never rust. Buried into the very living rock, these bars were never made to contain ‘It’. 'It’ has never had a reason to leave. The gate is for your own good. Yours and The Gentry. It is known that the Fair Folk are curious, and why wouldn’t they be… Nobody who has ever made it past the gate, Fair or not, has ever spoken of what they bore witness to. They never have, and they never will.

(I really really love the distinction between in-between places, which belong to the Gentry, and non-places, negative places, which don’t belong to anything at all)
Is the Cornerwitch anywhere near Elsewhere U?
The cornerwitch of the comic is not, but there are many cornerwitches. Every few years one passes through Elsewhere U on the way to becoming a cornerwitch, and while they’re there the place itself protects them. They can help you with the Gentry, although they have their own price and it’s not always the kinder option.
What about the nearby town? all or most of any Universities that i know of, full sized universities, not simply colleges, which can be found in the most backwoods places, but a full blown university is usually part of a town. I'd have to say locals would be those that have become stuck there, those that never managed to come all the way back from the other side...
Elsewhere University is encircled by a river, train tracks, and two highways. It’s not an even geometrical shape, and it encompasses several miles of land, but crucially the majority of the town is on the other side of these dividing lines. Really everything but the Denny’s, the Walmart, and one or two other miscellaneous buildings. Everything beyond the lines is perfectly mundane, although they have perhaps a higher ratio of ghost stories when compared to nearby towns in the area, and they might be more suspicious of the students - you hear weird things from the university hill, some nights. Who knows what they get up to?
