Day 98: in the Port of Muscat, Oman. Muscat is the capital and largest city in the Sultanate of Oman, an independent state in the southeast corner of the Arabian Peninsula. The city, located on the Arabian Sea, has an economy which is dominated by trade, petroleum and porting. . On the day we visited Nizwa Fort, Oman’s most visited national monument. The rocky Western Al Hajar mountains dominated the views for most of our journey. The fort, built in the 1650s was the administrative seat of authority for the presiding Imams and Walis in time of peace and conflict. The fort is a powerful reminder of the town’s significance through turbulent periods in Oman’s long history. . We also visited one of the world’s largest mosques, the beautiful Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque. It holds more than 15,000 worshippers and was complete in 2001 after taking 9 years to built. The huge Persian carpet inside the Mosque, once holding the record of biggest in the world, was made as a single piece and waved from the inside by 600 women. ________________________________________ Tags: #oman #muscat #oldmuscat #fort #aljalali #aljalalifort #mosque #grandmosque #sultanqaboosgrandmosque #travel #cunard #cunardline #aroundtheworld #worldcruise #worldvoyage #voyage #viaje (at Golden Tulip Nizwa Hotel)
