Throwback to my first photoshoot in Miami when I was 22— at that time it felt like destiny led me straight to the people I was meant to meet. Coming from Mississippi, where I often felt misunderstood and out of place, Miami was a breath of fresh air. I craved community and a sense of belonging, and Miami offered me just that.
I embarked on a journey of self-transformation—embracing vegetarianism, yoga, and daily workouts—trying to align myself with my true passions, setting the foundation for where I am now. With the hope of one da living on the beach, which I eventually did.
After a couple of months there, I decided to do a photoshoot in nature, a symbolic baptism in the water to honor my roots and journey. Oleta Park quickly became my sanctuary, and later, I even found myself working with a conservation organization to protect parks like these.
Miami embraced me with open arms, and I'm forever grateful for the experiences I had there. Looking back at these photos, I see a fearless, badass version of myself. Despite the struggles, I never gave up.
However, I now understand that my move from Mississippi to Miami was also a way of running from my issues. It took time and growth to realize that I needed to face them head-on. Wherever you go, your problems will follow if they're coming from within.
Whenever I feel down, I draw strength from her—the beauty, excitement, and resilience she exuded in every experience.
