You woke up and rolled over, trying to cuddle into your boyfriend, Oli’s body, only to find that he was gone. A piece of paper was laying on his pillow. Good morning my love x Happy anniversary! I’ve got a lot planned x Your first surprise is in the kitchen
Today was yours and Oli’s three year anniversary. You smiled at the thought of him planning out the day’s activities to make it something special. Oli was always one to give you surprises, so you were excited to see what he would do today.
You slipped on one of Oli’s shirts and threw your hair up, walking into the kitchen where you could smell bacon. Oli was standing over the stove, finishing up a pan of bacon. There were two plates of waffles on the table, glasses of orange juice, and bowls of fruit. You walked up behind Oli and wrapped your arms around his waist. “Happy anniversary,” you smiled, reaching on your tip toes to give him a kiss on the cheek. Oli put the bacon on a plate, turned off the stove, then turned around to place a strong kiss to your lips.
“Happy anniversary,” he said when you pulled away.
The two of you went to sit and eat your breakfast. You couldn’t stop thinking about what Oli had planned. “You can’t even give me a little hint?” you asked, nudging his foot against yours. Oli laughed.
“Not a chance,” he said. “No amount of your sweet talking is going to get me to cave.” You pouted and stood up before plopping yourself on his lap.
“Nothing can get you to cave?” you asked, brushing your fingers through his hair.
“Nothing,” he stated with a smile, biting into another strip of bacon. You sighed but went back to your chair to finish your breakfast.
Once you were both done, you stood up and went to go take a shower. You were having fun imagining what things Oli was to have you two do. Your first year together, he got you tickets to your favorite band. Your second year together, he surprised you with a trip to the Netherlands, a place you had only dreamed of going. You had no idea how he could top either of those things this year, but knowing Oli, he was going to pull out all the stops.
When you got out of the shower, you saw a sticky note on the back of the bathroom door: Your clothes for the day are on the bed xx You laughed and wrapped a towel around yourself, heading into the bedroom to find the outfit. Oli had bought you a black skater skirt, a knit tan sweater, black tights, and black booties with a tan heel. You were impressed. When you picked up the sweater to put it on, there was a note underneath it: Don’t be too impressed with me. Wallis helped pick it out
You laughed at the message and slipped the outfit on. When you went to the mirror to go do your hair and make up, you weren’t surprised to find another note: I’m sure you look beautiful already x when you’re finished getting ready, there’s a car waiting for you outside
Needless to say, you were slightly confused. Where had Oli gone? Regardless, you put on your make up, did up your hair, and grabbed your clutch and phone before walking out the door. True to Oli’s word, there was a car you recognized to be Conor’s parked out front. You laughed and hopped into the front seat. “Can you tell me what’s going on?” you said.
“My lips are sealed,” he said back. “You look lovely, by the way.”
“Thank you,” you smiled. “For some reason I feel really anxious?” You wiped your sweaty palms on your skirt. “I don’t know what to expect. I’m sure it’ll be great, but so far it’s going very differently from how Oli’s surprises usually go. Usually, Oli is a little more, y’know, present throughout the day.”
Conor laughed, “Everything is going to be perfect, I’m sure.”
After a few minutes of driving, you pulled up to a park you knew like the back of your hand. This was the park where you and Oli had your first date. As it was early afternoon now, there were a lot of people at the park. Before you could hop out of the car, Conor handed you a note. “From Oli,” he said with a wink. You laughed and thanked Conor, opening the note to read it: Where exactly were we that first day? xx
You grinned and hopped out of the car, waving a goodbye to Conor, and heading over to the secluded spot you had first fallen in love with Oli. It was beside a small creek, far away from where most of the park-goers were. As expected, there was Oli. The sight in front of you brought you back to that first date. It was a picnic set up extremely similar to the one three years prior. There were bottles of champagne, fruit, cookies, and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. “I know it’s not Amsterdam or The 1975,” Oli shrugged, “but I thought we’d go simple this year.” You smiled and went over to sit beside him and gave him a kiss on the cheek.
“I love it,” you said. “And I love you.”
Oli pulled out his camera to film the two of you. This wasn’t abnormal at all, and it didn’t bother you that he was filming your special day. You had fallen in love with Oli, camera and all. “What day is it today, (Y/N)?” Oli asked, panning the camera to you.
“Tuesday!” you giggled. Oli laughed lightly and gave you a small push. “Oh, and it’s mine and Oli’s three year anniversary!”
“How much do you love me?” he asked in a silly voice.
“This much!” you shouted, spreading your arms as far as they could go.
“Your arms are open so we have to hug!” he said, tackling you in a hug. You laughed and gave him a kiss on the nose before you pulled apart.
The two of you ate your meal, laughing and talking about your favorite memories with each other. You loved Oli more than anyone in the whole world, and it was moments like these that made you remember exactly why. The two of you were laying on the grass, your head on his stomach as you both watched the clouds. “There’s one more thing I have planned for today,” Oli said during a lull in the conversation. You sat up and he did as well. Reaching into the picnic basket, he pulled out a small black box.
Your hands flew up to cover your face when reality hit you, as you knew you were going to burst into tears. “Hey,” Oli said gently, a smile evident in his voice. “Look at me, love.” He held your hands in his, pulling them from your face. He then took the box again and opened it to reveal a stunning diamond ring. “These three years with you have made me realize that I want to keep spending all my years with you,” he said. “I want to be 80 years old, laying in this exact spot under the clouds, laughing the same way we did when we first met. There are a lot of things in this world that I don’t know or don’t understand, but one thing’s for certain, I love you more than I’ll ever love anyone else.” He took a deep breath. “So, (Y/N), will you marry me?”
Tears were falling steadily from your cheeks as you nodded. “Yes,” you said. “Yes, yes, of course I’ll marry you!” Once Oli slipped the ring around your finger, you threw your arms around his neck and kissed him. His hands rested on your hips, holding you tightly to him. Eventually, you pulled away and just laid your head on his shoulder, letting him hold you in his arms. When you finally pulled away, you sat back, admiring the ring on your finger. Oli pulled out his camera and filmed you, saying, “She said yes!” You looked up from your finger at Oli.
“What are you doing?” you asked with a laugh.
“I may’ve been planning to make a video,” he smiled. “Might not put it up online, but I’d like to document it nonetheless.”
“Is now when we come out?”
You and Oli both looked up to see Conor, Josh, and Jack topple out from behind the bushes. You raised your eyebrows at Oli, fighting back a laugh. “I had them filming and taking pictures in hiding,” he said almost bashfully, rubbing the back of his neck.
“Joe, Casp, and Mikey wanted to be here,” Jack explained, coming over to join you guys on the picnic blanket, “but they had plans for the day.”
“Congratulations,” Josh said sincerely, sitting beside you.
“Thank you,” you smiled, giving them all hugs. You quickly snuggled up to Oli again, playing with the ring on your finger. You leaned up and placed a kiss on his lips, holding his face in your hands. “I love you so much,” you said to him, stroking his cheek with your thumb.
“I love you too,” he smiled. As he pecked your lips once more, he turned to the boys again. “Alright, I want to see the pictures!”
