The screen door screeching on its spring announced his arrival -- provided the livestock dogs hadn't made it obvious just moments before. Jake could hear the little pitter patter of cat paws trotting up the porch steps followed by their mews. Jake carefully juggled a few bags of groceries and kicked off his shoes. "Moon?" He called out because he wasn't sure if Liv was outside with one of the goats.
They technically had a childless weekend, so he went all out with the snack raid at the supermarket and was proud of the bounty. He waited a moment; one of the cats, Hans 3.0, a raggedly orange tabby wound between his legs. Jake unceremoniously plopped the bags on the counter and began to unpack when Liv's footsteps padded nearer. "Hi, Liv love," Jake greeted with an easy smile at the sight of his wife and dipped his head back for a kiss. "It's about to go down at movie night -- they brought back the moose tracks ice cream and I got three bags of chips because it was a buy two get one free thing."
