Oli was born and raised in Center Hill and wasn't as proud of the Cross surname as some of his relatives. He stayed close by to his older brother Sam, following in his footsteps eagerly knowing that he had all the answers to escape the clutches of Center Hill. Their parents, John and Linda, were good people but the same couldn't be said for John's brother Jeffrey. As a result, the two sides of the Cross family were fractured for many years.

Oliver focused hard at school and ensured he was a good student, aware that his grades and performance would be the first start of a ticket out of the trailer park. Like his brother he earned a scholarship to study media production. As soon as he entered his college years, Oliver created a new persona for himself. He buried away his childhood and never spoke of where he was born and raised. By the time Oliver graduated, Sam had already began working at Talk Atlanta which gave Oli the opportunity to join him. He worked his way up and recently became a radio host and doesn't care about the rumors speculating that he just used his brother's hard work to boost his own career.

Oliver now lives in a Downtown apartment and is finally able to enjoy all of the hard work that got him there. He doesn't ever visit Center Hill and if he just so happens to see any of his old friends or family, he turns the other cheek and tries to avoid them.

Alongside being a radio host, Oliver has an online presence and become an internet personality with a decent following. People seem to love his "down to earth" image even though Oliver never talks about the humble beginnings which created it.

Oliver is secretly arrogant but has put on a mask to the rest of the world for so long, it only ever shows itself during desperate times. He's nearly always smiling and laughing, giving the impression that there isn't a single bit of weight on his shoulders. He also doesn't care to think that his older brother carries all of it after being responsible for changing their lives.
