Headcanon that Slim's favorite animal is a bear, George's is foxes, Curley's is dogs, Candy's is wolves, Curley's wife's is cats, and Crooks' is eagles or really just any bird. (Sorry if this is dumb, just thought about it and had to tell someone!)
That's awesome! Now what would their spirit animals be?
Slim’s god-like gaze shifted to a resentful glare for the first time in his life as Curley swerved into the bunk house. Curley returned the glare but quickly glanced at the hand that was gently planted on George’s shoulder.
Curley let out a muffled growl at the back of his throat and clenched his fists.
Slim’s eyes softened as he looked back at George. George hasn’t said anything at all after the little incident with Lennie, and was currently calmly shuffling the solitaire cards, dropping a few from time to time.
“Slim,”
Curley’s voice was harsh and demanding.
“Come with me. I need to talk to you,”
Slim looked up with the calm stature of the sky after a storm.
“I can’t,”
“Why not?”
“I’m busy,”
Slim looked back down to George as his stare softened. He shook his shoulder softly and pressed his hand down a bit in reassurance. George stiffened a little but relaxed instantly.
Curley’s eyes widened in envy. He wasn’t used to this feeling and he didn’t like it. He wasn’t used to the sight either.
“I said come with me. I don’t care if you’re trying to pet that lonesome goat of yours. I have something to say to you.”
Curley’s voice was shaken, in an attempt to hide his anger. If you looked close enough a small bounce could be noticed at his feet.
Slim suddenly looked Curley dead in the eye. Curley froze.
This was a look that he had never seen. A cruel, heartless, scathing look.
“I said I’m busy.”
His voice also had a different quality to it. Not his usual calm, enchanting tone, but a menacing deep growl.
Curley paced back a bit, the bounce in his step long gone. His still crushed hand twitched a little in pain, causing him to put a scowl on his face.
“I will talk to you later. Now leave.”
Curley’s feet were stuck to the floor. He was always reluctant of testing Slim, for he never knew what he was capable of doing. No one did.
And Curley may or may not have regretted it.
Slim’s gaze bore into his very being, making him shiver on the spot.
“Y-yeah… Later…”
Curley gulped as he tried to pull his eyes away from Slim’s. Those eyes stuck him to place as though he didn’t have the permission to move.
“No. Actually, let’s go now.”
Slim stood up and walked over to Curley, taking each step cautiously. His stern gaze was locked on Curley. He intensely stared down at him as he harshly grabbed his arm – a movement quite unusual.
Fear overshadowed Curley.
Slim glanced back at George who was still quietly shuffling the solitaire cards. He nodded his head a little and turned back to Curley.
A deep sigh could be heard throughout the bunk house as Slims agitation slipped out in one breath.
With his usual profound grace he glided out of the bunk house and took careful steps down the stair that followed. Waiting as he turned the corner and leaned against the wall, his imminent gaze strapped onto the now rather nervous male in front of him. His nervousness bought a rather pleasurable satisfaction to Slim, a satisfaction he rarely felt.
Crossing his arms as Curley shifted closer; he leaned down so he was about the same height as him.
“Speak,”
His voice was gentle, yet demanding. A loud gulp filled the atmosphere as Slim stared Curley down.
“How much longer are you going to stay with that damned guy, eh!? His damned ‘friend’ is dead you can’t change tha’! So leave the guy alone already or at least let that other old guy look after ‘im!”
Slim listened intently, a rather ghost of a smirk sneaking its way onto his astound features as he listened.
“And what’s your problem with me lookin’ after the poor guy?”
A silence followed his words. A long, drawn out silence. He slowly leaned closer, watching as the smaller brunettes eyes darted away from his own.
“I-I don’ care! It’s just your damn work’s been sufferin’ cause of it!”
Slim lightly chuckled at the slightly thicker accent that was applied to Curley’s voice. He stepped a little closer, almost successfully pressing Curley against the hard, wooden wall of the bunk house.
“I don’t think the one that’s been slacking off lookin’ for another poor gal to bring home is in any position to be judging my work, Curley,”
His lips were now rather uncomfortably close to Curley’s ear, causing an excited shiver to go up Curley’s back. This was a side of Slim Curley rarely saw, or heard of for that matter, and it frightened him; or was it excited?
“My personal life isn’t your business Slim,”
He tried to make his voice sound menacing, but it came out a lot shakier than he would have liked it to.
“How about I make it my business?”
As soon as Curley raised his eyebrow at the rhetorical question, he gasped. There was now a pair of teeth slowly sinking into his neck. He grunted lightly as a tongue slid over the most likely red skin. Groaning a little, Curley used most of his strength to push the taller figure away from him.
“W-what the hell?! I should have you sacked!”
Slim unconsciously licked his lips and crossed his arms. That was a much better reaction than he had expected.
“Go on. But have fun explaining to your old man exactly why you had to do that,”
He chuckled at the raging expression on Curley’s face. Without taking another glance at the angry brunette, he turned on his heel and walked back to the front of the bunk house. It wasn’t safe to stay around him now that he was angry, as well as it wasn’t safe to leave George alone for too long.
