In the midst of finding your life’s purpose, it’s a common thing to lose friends, it’s not that you’re doing it purposely, but in life, there will come a time when you unintentionally outgrow some people no matter how much you still want them. It's either you no longer shares the same interest, change of priorities, or sometimes, betrayal. Hence, the cliché statement that “people change” speaks volumes. The irony is, as you lose some, you will also gain new ones, that’s the bittersweet truth of one’s quest of finding friends.

Here’s my story...

In my 365 plus days’ journey away from home, I struggled a lot in making genuine connections. Trying to have one will always end up to these questions, “can I can trust her? “Is she faking it?” I guess I will always have the fear of being judged, betrayed, and left alone by revealing the real me. The craving for belongingness will always be there, but so was fear. I tried volunteering, attended various events, installed that people finding app, but not tinder 🤭 still, zero finds. I met a lot of acquaintances though, grateful for having them, but the degree of friendship that im looking for wasn’t realized until I met Judy. 🤗

The funny thing about our friendship is, we became friends two months after we met. We are opposite in so many ways we thought we wouldn’t click. She’s introvert, im extrovert. I talk a lot, she’s shy. She’s serious, im wacky. Can you see any connection? No. But Coulomb’s law which says opposites attract was accurate in our case. [Saying this, bc Judy is a science geek] The credits of how our friendship started lie solely on a certain Facebook My Day post. One reaction that change everything!

Judy girl, B1, as what I always call you, thank you for the gift of friendship. Thank you for listening and accepting the quirkiness of my personality. I prayed for a friend like you, countless times, especially in moments of desperation when im looking for someone who would understand me, just like the few ones that I have back home. Our big God always listens though, prayers granted! 🤗 Can’t believe we are already doing things that we planned before the lockdown happens! 🤗

Can’t wait for another off the road experience with the windows down, and us yelling bella ciao or any of our fave song at the top of our lungs! Love from your clingy friend. 💕

Thank you also for the other otg friends, for being available. Just one text away! insert *toot*, another *toot*, Shukran for understanding the complexities of our thought process and maintaining a purely intellectual discourse, by the beach, under the moonlight with a bonfire, feeling all the feels.

Anyhow, it wasn’t the atmosphere that made it special; it was the authenticity and sincerity of thoughts and feelings while talking about life and everything in between.
