We waited an entire year for season 3 of On My Block, only for the series to end this way?
The writers choosing to dismantle the Core 4 was baffling & extremely disheartening to witness. They blatantly erased all of the character development the group went through in the prior seasons. And given everything they've gone through together, you would think that their bond would grow even stronger, but for reasons we're not privy to, all of that growth is rendered irrelevant, in a matter of two years.
Perhaps the writers wanted to showcase a more realistic view on friendships and how (at times) we can easily outgrow them, especially during our teen years. However this fickle approach on their friendship hurts to watch because we were all really rooting for their happy ending.
Personally I'd like to believe that they did not have a bad fall out within those two years. That they in fact outgrew each other and chose to move in different paths. Oddly enough those paths have landed them to be versions of themselves they originally hated...from Jamal becoming a footballer, Monse becoming a preppy private schooler, Cesar fully embracing the gang life and Ruby becoming Jasmine's boyfriend (remember he disliked her for a lot of the series).
However I selfishly wanted the Core 4 to have a more sound and happier ending. BUT who is to say that these characters aren't currently happy, right? They actually might be the most content they've ever been. But again, as a viewer, I STILL wanted a better ending for them. This just wasn't it!
Does anyone know if OMB got a new writing team for season 3? Because they've got some major explaining to do!
To think that the Core 4 are now basically strangers to each other is massively sad 😭😭
