i also really loved both your omegaverse dexmatt fics and got curious, do you have any headcanons on omega dex (like maybe his childhood as omega (especially in My Heart is the Worst Kind of Weapon)), a/b/o dexmatt in general (would their dynamic change due to secong sex, would they be stereotypical alpha/omega, would they still be violent dexmatt lol, would they maybe… have kids?). anyway just wanted to hear your thoughts on your headcanons, i love your way of thinking :)
Ahh I love omegaverse Dexmatt SO much and am always happy to talk about omega Dex and alpha Matt, lol. Probably comes as no surprise, but I do have quite a few headcanons and backstory for omega Dex...I think Dex's life in an omegaverse setting would probably be very similar to his life in the show - orphanage, army, FBI, mental institution, prison- but he would experience even more feelings of isolation and otherness. Dex canonically has always felt separate from either people, like he doesn't belong, and I imagine that being an omega would exacerbate those feelings.
I think Dex would still be himself as an omega, and that would contribute even more to his feeling that he is fundamentally broken as a person. He's still violent and unstable and dangerous, but now you have the secondary gender designation on top of that.
I think that omega Dex, just like in canon, really wants to belong to someone. He WANTS to be a good omega, but his mental health issues drive people away, and so he gave up on the idea of ever being mated. One of the things I think is so heartbreaking even about canon Dex is that he really has this desperation and neediness that makes him really really vulnerable to manipulation and abuse. I alluded to it in My Heart is the Worst Kind of Weapon, but Dex has experienced a lifetime of sexual assault and abuse from other people, most of them alphas, so he is naturally even more wary of them, but there is still a side of him that really craves submission.
It's honestly really easy to write omega Dex and alpha Matt because their canon counterparts already have all of the omegaverse traits, lmao. Matt is 100% an alpha. He's aggressive, he's territorial, he's protective. Even his heightened senses like sense of smell, etc, make sense in an omegaverse contex. I write alpha Matt as someone who is - not ashamed of his designation- but as someone who is very aware of it and what it means for him and for the people around him. Matt's whole thing is protecting the vulnerable, so I think that alpha Matt would honestly have stayed away from omegas for the majority of his adult life. He sees it as his duty to protect Hell's Kitchen, so like Dex, he doesn't see mating or bonding as something that's possible for him, for an entirely different reason.
Naturallyyyy all of these feelings are on a collision course in the fic, haha.
I don't want to spoil too much since My Heart is the Worst Kind of Weapon is ongoing, but I actually DO have plans to write an omega Dex mpreg fic. I have quite a few omegaverse Dexmatt fics planned. I love writing omegaverse, and Dex and Matt's issues make them reallyyy interesting to put into the a/b/o torment nexus, haha.
