1 Year 134 Days! HAPPY FIFTH BIRTHDAY, FAKER!

Today Faker is five years old! Here’s to the flower that got me on Tumblr and helped me meet the friends I have now!

I didn’t ever intend for there to be four different versions of him but here they are...

1 Year 38 Days! So I made a “what-if” design for Faker. Basically: “what if I had created him today with his entire backstory in mind beforehand?”

I think he’d have turned out a little something like this! This was really fun and really hard to make and I loved the challenge of it.

In this context, his name would refer more to the fact that he’s more machine than flower rather than his existential crisis he has going on. Some more info about this design below the cut.

So some fun facts about this design!

-His ‘petals’ are not at all real petals. The red outline of his petals are tubes that have magic flowing through them.

-The inside of his ‘petals’ are just pools of that respective type of magic. I’d imagine that when a particular soul is takes over him, Faker would absorb the magic and the tubes around his stem would start glowing that color. Then the soul would be able to use their type of magic!

-The tubes around his stem, as I just explained, show who’s in control. I made them sort of as a replacement for his locket.

-There is a method to the madness of where I put the colors on his ‘petals’. Take a guess at why I put them where I did!

-The same reason for why rearranged the colors is the same reason why I put the little lines through his eyes and why I did the thorns on his body differently... and why I made his stem a different color. Maybe it’s more obvious now what specifically he’s taking a lot of his design from?

-I’ll be honest, all the tubing that goes around the back/into the sides of his head are more there just for design purposes than anything. If I had to give them a practical purpose, I’d say that they help the determination flow through his system?

If you’ve read this far, thanks! Now I’m not changing Faker’s design whatsoever. His design is perfect as-is. I just really wanted a design challenge (normally I would have done flower fusions but I’m out of flowers to fuse with Faker, sadly) and I remembered how I keep telling myself that I accidentally and spontaneously created a design that can’t be beat with Faker

I really like this what-if design! It has actual story elements incorporated into it and it just looks neat! But I love current Faker and also he’s way easier to draw.
