A bit of a personal question, but how does Omega Odysseus handle 'certain bodily issues' when he's at sea for all those years? Does he just have a stock load of suppressants?
How does one find out there rank in the Omegaverse?
He is so stressed his heats are kinda nonexistent and when he does have them the stress manifests as aggressive during them.
I write omegas as having three types of heat. Got it from jar-of-omegaverse note I used it as a building blocks for my own writing and not word for word
But before I get into types of heats. Let's talk about presentation. Which is how you find out what your secondary sex is. Typically happens around puberty. So ages 12-14 but other factors can cause earlier or delayed presentation.
It's Ancient Greece so any suppressants they do have is all herb based. Same with contraceptions. If you want me to get into the secondary genders more I will make a separate post. But male omegas do have vaginas and female alphas do have a penis.
Warm heat: a warm heat is the heat that occurs when an omega's body is either preparing for sexual reproduction, while pregnant, or is exiting the ability to sexually reproduction. This heat also occurs when omegas feel safe.
For young omegas (aged: 12-17/18) it starts when an omega presents. Its their bodies preparing as they sexual mature.
For pregnant omegas it can occur during and after birth. It is usually the heat a pregnant omega experiences for their first few heats after giving birth.
For omegas in their 50s or 60s its the heat they experience as they age out of being able to sexually reproduction. (Think menopause)
Typical symptoms are: slight fever, cuddly, clingy with either their mate or parents. They are super affectionate and nest. They give off a sweet aroma but it doesn't typically attract alphas or betas. But will attract omegas.
Highly unlikely to get pregnant during this kind of heat. But it's not zero. Their bodies produce a little bit of slick but not a lot.
Typically lasts 3-4 days and occured every 2-4 months depending on an omega's cycle.
Sexual heat: a sexual heat is the heat that occurs when an omega's body is ready for sexual reproduction. Body produces a lot of slick, and omegas have an increased libido. And give off an intoxicating scent alerting alphas to their heats. Tend to be in a bit of a hazy. They don't like leaving their nests. So any food and drink has to be brought to them.
Occurs in omegas 17/18-40s/50s.
Also only occurs when an omega feels safe. But it can be induced with herbal supplements.
High chance of getting pregnant during this heat.
Typically lasts 5-6 days.
Unmated omegas going through these heats will either go to a private room in their own home or will go to Hera's temple to have their heats as alphas are not allowed in her temple.
Dry heat: this occurs when an omega is in an unsafe situation, severely injured, or in a bad mental state.
Lasts 5-6 days and all reproductive functions shut down and they cannot get pregnant during these heats. Their bodies don't produce any slick Their scents turn sour to ward off alphas or betas. And dry heats cause a lot of pain.
They are inconsistent in timing.
They can manifest in a few different ways.
Hyper aggression, extreme anxiety/shutting down, extremely flighty.
During the war Odysseus' heats manifested as aggression to an extremely violent point. That when he was on the battlefield the trojans didn't want to fight him. He was also easily irritable. So he definitely had to be locked up a few times just to stop him.
While traveling the aggression lessened. But he was still experiencing so much stress he just stopped having them.
When he ended up on Calypso's island they started again but were still inconsistent.
Alternatively. Telemachus's heats manifested as extreme anxiety due to the stress brought on by the suitors.
He didn't experience a normal heat until he was away from that stress and the suitors were all dead.
