99/100 films → Romeo + Juliet (1996)
This movie was set in a very modern set, but kept the original dialouge of the story. At first, it was very hard to interperet the speech, because I am not used to it, and recognize the characters at the same time. Most of the beginning was me just trying to figure out who was who and what was going on. I really can't critique the plot line, but the most of the characters, sans Romeo and Juliet, were very static, flat characters. However, I loved how they maintained the regular script, because the actual words of Shakespeare saved it from being a very stupid, almost vulgar retelling of the great story. Romeo and Juliet did have very good chemistry, and every scene with them was great. My favorite scene was when Juliet, alone, was talking about Romeo and how she wished it was tomorrow.
"Come, gentle night, come, loving, black-browed night,
Give me my Romeo. And when I shall die,
Take him and cut him out in little stars,
And he will make the face of heaven so fine
That all the world will be in love with night
And pay no worship to the garish sun.
Oh, I have bought the mansion of a love,
But not possessed it, and though I am sold,
Not yet enjoyed. So tedious is this day
As is the night before some festival
To an impatient child that hath new robes
