“All the people you like are either old, dead or fictional.”
— My Dad
Great news: my dad has discovered the comic genius of Ali Wong (“Always Be My Maybe was very good. I cried a little. It’s fine.”) and thinks Baby Cobra is so funny he’s glad he has a catheter so he doesn’t have to worry about peeing his pants.
Anyway he’s on a mission to find out everything about her and her career and hooboy if live comedy comes back and she tours she better be ready for a 60-something dad in a wheelchair to howl with laughter and make shit weird.
Hey guys, you know how I was like “yeah when I write about Tony I think I’m drawing from my dad going off about engineering” last night?
Whelp, I had the bright idea of taking that Actual Engineering bit I wrote and run the concept by my dad to make sure that it’s A. Correct and B. Actually Possible.
He proceeded to go “lawl nope” in so many words and I spent two hours this evening listening to a very long tangent that dove into the thing I was actually writing about before diverting to: at least three different types of engineering schools, talk about blowing up transformers via hacking, the snowstorm issue in Texas and the idiocy of why the power grid went down there, and more. While all of this went through, I desperately tried to get my plot point rescued and bring the conversation back on track to “yeah but I want to use *this* so can I do *this* instead” and all my questions led down long rabbit holes that I only partially understood. At the end of the conversation, he gave me a big fat “maybe”.
I think I may have to throw up the “this is fiction” flag in this case--edit it with the new knowledge I have and that the “actually possible” may be more fictional than not.

My dad is a teacher and his corporation relies heavily on google classroom (where they give virtual assignments to kids) and the last day before a two week break he's planning on putting an assignment on the classroom and it's just rick astley singing never gonna give you up and he was so excited to finally rick roll his students that he was jumping up and down when he told my brother and I about the plan when he came home
So I got my father a new (somewhat cheaper) duck for his birthday. This duck is meant to go outside in his garden where he wanted a duck in the first place. I've written this note in hopes that he sees this one as an "outside duck."
