Hey, can you expand if possible on what "Health at Every Size"...means? I'd only ever heard the term on here and I'd always thought it was a fat positive movement, but lately I've been following a bunch of fat activists over on twitter as well and although I've only seen offhand references to it, I get the idea that most of them think its bad? As in fatphobic?

And I've just been quite confused by it all.

At its core the movement is about decentralizing weight as a measure of health, promoting a health first vs weight first treatment in medical circles and critically examining data from studies. From there you've got promoting fat inclusion in various ways ie creating and promoting better fat fashion or fat work out gear. Teaching and unlearned fatphibic stereotypes and confronting fat stigma in our culture.

People might have issue with it from a uneducated standpoint or if they don't like L Bacon the, uh I guess "founder". So I'm not sure. Take some time to read the link and see if you vibe with it.

Also if for whatever reason you don't like the formality of HAES you can still adopt the values and practices involved with it.

The new discourse on twitter has basically been about whether or not kinks belong at pride/to what degree they can be displayed and what not. I'll be honest, it's kind of hard to make a statement on the matter that won't get taken apart and read in bad faith on the subject at the moment?

Like, legit, a young black person I follow basically just tweeted saying "consent is integral to kink" (or words to that effect) and a bunch of much (older, white) gays jumped on them saying "I don't need your consent to wear leather at pride!" When they didn't even mention the leather?

More or less, on one side you do have some people who are like, saying "wearing a leather outfit" is bad and nsfw and shouldn't be around kids or pride. And then on the other side you have people saying they should be allowed to just be blatantly sexual and flash people bc "queer bodies aren't inherently nsfw".

And I personally bc of both these kind of awful takes circulating, a lot of people have gotten very overly defensive bc at this point someone could make a very innocuous statement "pride should be kid friendly" or "desexualising pride is not the answer to the homophobic oversexualisation of queer ppl" - and they both mean something entirely different, basically.

Also, funnily there are a lot of tweets on both sides going: "Well 'no one' is saying (xyz awful take)" when there very blatantly are people saying that.

Pride “discourse” on here and twitter has always been this way when queer discoursing became popular so I just don’t even bother. People get hella aggro and are basically ready to jump throat(including at innocuous statements like you said) & I’ve always seen some wild shit ranging from calling the gay men who perform at pride “pedophiles” for being openly sexual since some kids are probably in the crowd... or calling the other side homophobic puritans infringing on gay rights. Like there rlly feels like there’s no place to have the discussion online bc ppl get immediately brain dead & are searching for a reason to argue and paint each other as evil.

Is it just me or is Phineas a bit different in the first five or so episodes of the show? He seems more sarcastic and maybe even a little 'mean', but then the Phineas we're used to from the rest of the show is a total sweetheart.

His early sarcastic (and morbid) side seems to have been a holdover from his original concept personality!

for me ravi has a cultural significance! when i was choosing my name (a process that lasted a long time with a lot of trial and error) i looked up popular names in cape verde, my mother country, and ravi was one of them. it’s an indian name but it’s popular in portuguese as well. it means “sun” :3

picking a name is something that might take a lot of time and effort but honestly it’s worth it. a name is so personal and intimate and it’s worth it to take ur time to choose one really meaningful

As a worshipper of Persephone, do you have any opinions (positive or negative) on Hadetown the musical? It has one of the most unique characterisations of her I've ever seen. And whilst they don't have a very kind portrayal of Hades, they somehow still managed to depict their relationship in what I thought was a quite realistic and ultimately really sweet in a way?

I personally got into the musical before I got into Helenic Polytheism and I loved it, and I still love it despite everything because I've chosen to look at it kind of in the same way you mentioned mythology in your podcast. Like, even if the musical itself is "about" Hades and Persephone, it's not really about them, they're just placeholders for more abstract concepts - like for example capitalism, and climate change and what have you. So I personally see it as more of a critique on society using the gods, rather than of the gods themselves.

Anyways, I'd love to hear your thoughts, if you've listened to it!

I actually had the pleasure of seeing Hadestown live! I absolutely LOVED it! I personally didn’t mind the portrayal of Hades maybe because I’m used to like Hades = The Devil and this portrayal was a lot more sympathetic (and closer to actual mythology Hades) and treated Hades and Persephone as a typical married couple who just needed to be reminded of why they fell in love in the first place. I thought their love story was beautiful and very relatable. And I absolutely adored Persephone! That portrayal is the closest to the Persephone I know and work with. So I was def very thrilled!! 

Also Hermes. Fucking fantastic! Everytime I see Andre De Shield I’m like “It’s Hermes!” because he just embodies the swagger and coolness of Hermes. He was honestly my favorite. 

See the thing is, I’m not necessarily looking for “accurate” (whatever that means bc we all see the gods differently) depictions of the gods in media anymore. I want something NEW. I’m sick of the same tropes, stories, and depictions they continue to recycle over and over again. So i essentially enjoyed Hadestown because it was something different. Something fresh. Something a lot more relatable and human. And the music was bomb! 

I’m gonna give a more in-depth breakdown of my feelings about Hadestown for my Gods in the Media series, but you know spoiler...i enjoyed it! lol!
