writing omnisexual/omniromantic characters
a post by an omniromantic asexual
First of all, what does it mean to be omnisexual/omniromantic?
Omnisexual/omniromantic means you experience attraction to every gender, but gender is still a factor in who you're attracted to.
Wait, but isn't that just pan? Or is it closer to bi?
Nope! I know that can get confusing, so I'll quickly define a few identities that all experience attraction to multiple genders.
Bi-attraction to genders that are the same as your own and others.
Poly-attraction to multiple genders. (To my understanding, the difference between poly and bi is that bi includes being attracted to your own gender, while poly does not have to include your own gender. Correct me if I'm wrong though!)
Pan-attraction regardless of gender; genderblind
Omni-attraction to all genders
Oh, okay. So what should I avoid while writing an omni character?
We don't experience equal attraction. I know that was probably worded weird, but what I mean is that we might feel attracted more to one gender than another. For example, I'm more attracted to feminine presenting people than masculine presenting people, but that doesn't mean that I wouldn't want to date a masculine presenting person. Maybe your character is more attracted to men. That's alright too! Not all omni people are the same.
that's all i could think of, but feel free to ask me if you have any more questions!
