I always considered the TARDIS to be the Doctor's constant companion, since the Doctor's other companions come and go. The TARDIS has the ability to blend into its surroundings, and throughout the series has exhibited an implied personality, so I thought the TARDIS could be humanoid too. :)
Shot this for a photo contest hosted by Angie of Omocha Crush in the Fb group, and I don’t think I’ve ever put this much effort into a single doll photo before! The theme for Round 1 of the contest was “time travel” and I immediately went with the most obvious thing ever. XD I managed to slap all of this together in about 7 hours, once I had all the materials.
Backdrop: I painted the plain black side of an illustration board using poster paints. I’d looked up tutorials for “galaxy print” and did the best I could to follow along; this backdrop was the result of about 3 hours of panicking over “WHY DOES IT NOT LOOK LIKE A GALAXY AT ALL????” The spiral and the numbers were all drawn on with white permanent marker - which I didn’t even know existed until two days before the contest deadline. HAHAHA
TARDIS outfit: My schedule suddenly got filled before the contest deadline, so I totally put off sewing a TARDIS dress. What you see here is literally strips of fabric held together by running stitches. The bodice is plain white fabric with lines drawn on using permanent marker, I kid you not. The straps are just a ribbon stitched on haphazardly, and Lala is pretty much sewn into this outfit. The “hat”/light is a toilet paper roll covered with plain white paper - with permanent marker lines once again - and held together by a bit of tape.
Hair: I’m so grateful for my first Pullip having a straight wig. Pullip wigs are notorious for being of iffy quality, so the straight wig lets me play around with the hairstyle without any regrets. :)) After pulling out the “sideburns,” it was about 5 minutes of pure struggling with a wig brush in hand, trying to get the ponytail high enough for the “hat” placement without making the sides look hideous. The side that shows looks pretty good, but the other side… looks like a catfight happened there. I’m so glad that the slight wave of the hair got emphasized when I tied it, it makes a cute little crescent shape. OuO
Photo manipulation: I made some minor edits to this shot, just to pull the look together. The shoes were originally lilac-colored, so I altered it in Photoshop to go with the dress; the “POLICE BOX” and “PUBLIC CALL” text was also slapped onto the straps. I darkened the photo as well to get a more “galaxy” feel out of my backdrop.

I honestly wish I could afford to have elaborate setups for all my doll photos. It’s not just the expenses involved, but also the time and effort. TT ^ TT Maybe someday I’ll have a photogenic doll room, or lots of different sets in different scales? A collector can dream! For now, I’ll be playing around with my art materials and pulling together what I can. :P
‘Til next post,
Vanessa ❤
