Had lots of fun today at omochitsuki! Every year the community gets together to make mochi the old fashioned way with a big wooden mallet and a brave man that can turn and fold the steaming hot rice in between each pounding. =) Basically it's very similar to chopping wood. Good exercise, and in-between you can go get some free sake and mochi.
