"A wise person knows that there is something to be learned from everyone." – Author unknown
Not all knowledge is wise. Wisdom often leads to a certain kind of peace and inner reconciliation. Self-awareness to the verge of self-absorption is a whole different story. Wise knowledge frees. Self-absorbed awareness cages, alienates.
— Ink Empathy
‘It is strange how often a heart must be broken / Before the years can make it wise.’
— Sara Teasdale, ‘Dust’; from Flame and Shadow
I [wisdom] was there when he established the heavens, when he drew the horizon on the oceans. I was there when he set the clouds above, when he established the deep fountains of the earth. I was there when he set the limits of the seas, so they would not spread beyond their boundaries. And when he marked off the earth’s foundations, I was the architect at his side. I was his constant delight, rejoicing always in his presence. And how happy I was with what he created–his wide world and all the human family! And so, my children, listen to me for happy are all who follow my ways.
Proverbs 8:27-32
[…] Wisdom, said William James, Is learning what to overlook. And I am wise If that is wisdom.
Randall Jarrell, from The Complete Poems, "Next Day"
"Wisdom comes from experience. Experience is often a result of lack of wisdom." – Terry Pratchett
"A lot of wisdom is just realizing the long-term consequences of your actions. The longer term you’re willing to look, the wiser you’re going to seem to everybody around you." – Naval Ravikant
