"No. I haven't seen Agent Tyler at all today." Mandy paused, hesitating. "Should I- do you think I should go look for her?"

"No, stay here," the Doctor said a bit rudely before catching himself. "Please," he added as an afterthought as he pulled out his phone to dial up Rose.

“Doctor,” Mandy repeated, committing it to memory. “I don’t think he said anything, even though I greeted him. He just kind of hissed in my general direction, which I took as a sign that he didn't want to talk. If there was a word in that hiss, I definitely missed it.” Why hadn’t she paid more attention at the time? She was beginning to realize that this Doctor Smith fellow was legitimately concerned and she was kicking herself because she might have missed a clue as to what what was going on.

"Was Rose here when he was here?" The Doctor repeated, looking around.  He didn't like this. He wanted to know where Rose was.

Mandy thought back through her wait. She’d let herself in with her new ID card and she hadn’t seen a soul until- “Oh, yes! I was on this hall, almost to Agent Tyler’s office, when a man passed me, going in the opposite direction. I didn’t recognize him and I didn’t see where he was coming from, though, or where he went.” Suddenly remembering her manners, she stuck out her hand. “By the way, I’m Mandy Shaw. I’m Agent Tyler’s new secretary. Just starting today.”

The Doctor, however, had no manners, and didn't respond to her introduction. "A man? What did he look like? Did he say anything to you?" Rose didn't have any problems with anyone in the office and there was no way for anyone to get inside without a security ID...

"No, and I was actually hoping there would be someone around who could answer that very question for me. I was supposed to be meeting with her..." Mandy paused, frowning. "When she scheduled this, she'd said she had to check something right before the scheduled time and that she might be a few minutes late, but the scheduled time was over an hour ago and I haven't seen her yet. Any clue what she was checking on? I'd go look for her but I don't know this building very well yet."

"Hmn...." The Doctor made a face, looking around. He pulled his phone out of his pocket, calling her, but there was no answer. "That's weird. She usually tells me before she goes out on the field. Have you seen anyone?"

Mandy nervously straightened her blouse, took a deep breath, and gave the edge of the open door a soft knock. She didn’t receive an answer, so she peered around to peek in. Her new boss at Torchwood, Rose Tyler, appeared to have stepped out of her office for a moment. She’d mentioned that she might, though, and she’d told Mandy to come in and make herself at home. Mandy did just that, perching in a comfortable chair, feeling anxious, and waiting. And waiting. And waiting. (1/2)

Over an hour later, she was still sitting in the office alone, getting a little worried. She looked up when she heard a voice calling nearby; she was surprised, as she’d been told the building was mostly empty. That was why this meeting had been scheduled for a Saturday, giving her an easier adjustment period with fewer people. (2/2)

Rose was supposed to be there, however -- she was a bit of a workaholic, and the Doctor was doing his best to break her of that, but it was a work in progress. He walked in, smiling at the new secretary as he passed, and peeked into the office. And of course, Rose wasn't there. He sighed, looking out again. "Excuse me? Have you seen Agent Tyler?" It was so weird calling her that.
