One Shadow

Shadow draconidaes are known to be the one of the most dangerous type of draconidaes that have ever lived. As they work with the dark substance that is a shadow they have a tendency to be more easily tempted into darkness  but their power over the shadows themselves has made them a particular threat to demons. It is for this reason they are specifically hunted by demons.

Many centuries ago a powerful shadow draconidaes both in wealth and magic named Akira lived in Japan. He protected a vast region and in return the all the humans within his territory paid him and his family homage. He had a beautiful human wife and together they had two sons and two daughter but only a single daughter Sora, had inherited her father’s shadow abilities. The rest were human. In a normal Japanese family this would have been a disappointment but in draconidaes culture females are celebrated and such was the case here. Akira taught his daughter everything about how to control the shadows and even told her about a new technique he had been working on. His other children were not neglected. Akira taught them to be warriors even his human daughter developed a fighting style based on elegant movements and the use of fans. Her father had special bladed fans known as tesen crafted for her. The boys learned skills of a samurai and all was peaceful for a time.

One night shadow demons known as Oni attacked in force. Even Akira’s and Sora’s combined power along with their shadow beasts was not enough to stop them. Akira had no choice he needed to use his new technique the kagemāji. His shadow beast which were falcon like creatures came to him and wrapped around him combining with him. He became bigger and his black scales became as black as shadows themselves. His spines became larger and more jagged and glowing marks appeared all over his face and body. Together they became something stronger and tore through the Oni destroying every last one of them but at a cost. By the end of it the glowing marks had disappeared and the kagemāji had become as mindless as a shadow beast. Akira having lost control of the kagemāji was still trapped inside lost to the world. He ran far from his family not fully recognizing them. His young daughter being to weak from the fight was powerless to pursue.
