I saw a text post that said: "talking to very republican teenagers is so surreal." I was going to write a few succinct thoughts, but that obviously didn't happen. 

Nah, I don't find Republican teenagers super weird nor my encounters with them super surreal.

Maybe I'm biased because in early adolescence, I claimed to be conservative because my parents are. Honestly, if I had kept on in the same ambitious direction I was so determined to take, I would probably be a libertarian right now. The point is, though, have a lot of privilege and if I had not been educated on it and its harms and how conservatism exponentializes those harms, I would have been perfectly content to continue exercising my privilege wantonly through conservatism. 

In general, I find that Republican teenagers are of this carefree nature which isn't to say they have no cares or that they are ignorant, but that they are unaware or uninspired by the exacerbated plight of others as a consequence of conservatism. The scope of teenagers such as myself who are protected by their parents financial security can lead to their entitlement and that entitlement to their subscription to conservative politics as they recognize that those politics give them the most opportunity and efficacy in the future to exercise power they believe is inherent in their talents and fail to recognize is also a figment of their privilege.

Yet, in all honesty, I don't think Republican teens are any more harmful than teenagers who take the whole laissez-faire attitude towards politics and current events as a whole and in most cases, I think they're a lot less harmful than teens who claim liberal politics then step all over the people they supposedly support. (Oh yes, please tell me how unfair it is that people hate on welfare recipients then talk about how stupid and lazy you must be to become that poor. Oh yes, please laud the Colorado model of the legalization of MJ without acknowledging how classist it is.) It's certainly not stylish to be conservative (at least in my community of teenagers) and so there's a certain degree of integrity, however self-absorbed its objectives are, in those who subscribe to and advocate for conservative politics at my age. 

Besides all that, though, I wanted to talk about the implication behind that post which might not have been intended at all to imply my interpretation, but what I saw was the "other"ing of Republican teenagers. This is not in advocacy of Republican teenagers' politics (I promise). 

We had a substitute in English last week who [was batshit crazy and] started off our class saying: "You guys are too young to be Republican." If it's not obvious, he was implying that we, as teenagers, could not be Republicans because of our youth and consequent inexperience. Apparently, Republicans exclusively are pragmatists and this is an implication I hear often and I am sick and tired of it. 

Liberalism is not for dreamers explicitly. It isn't some high-minded fantasy out of deluded children who have yet to see "real life" and it's not the revenge fantasy disgruntled minorities who don't know how to forget.

Creating this idea that Republican teenagers are out of place supports the idea that liberal teenagers are going through a phase and will one day grow up  and become Republicans because it is the natural progression into survival and the politics behind it. 

Fuck that idea.
