One-sidedness A person, no matter how good he is, could have weaknesses that might be exaggerated by someone with ulterior motives, and could hence be wronged as a bad man. The same is true of a bad person who might be mistaken as a good one if his strengths are overstated deliberately.  As there, to a great extent, exists one-sidedness in what we perceive and speak, we need to make judgments with wisdom. Otherwise, we are living in a state of deceiving ourselves and being deceived every day.

One-sidedness

Everyone has a strong and weak side - in humans, this is left or right handedness.  This causes misalignment throughout the whole body, which in turn can cause difficulties and crookedness in horses.  Horses similarly have this problem - they have strong and weak hind legs and sides, which causes a wonky seat and impacts their movement.  You cannot place either yourself or your horse in a 'perfect' position, because your crookedness takes over.  Your horse can push you over to one side (the opposite to their strong side), which makes it difficult to sit straight.  Joni Bentley says:  'They have to learn how to counterbalance their own and their horse’s one-sidedness in the saddle until alignment happens naturally.' 

It appears that a lot of 'attempts' to straighten the body are simply disguises to make them seem straight, whereas often they are simply exacerbating the issue.  Natural straightening straightens the horse and rider together, to create an aligned partnership. 

The key is to cure rather than cover up - this is the problem many horses at top level are suffering from.
