I went to their prayer meeting today with Evelyn. She and her BF Sam have been going there this summer (it’s Sam’s home church). In all the years I came to visit my grandparent’s, it’s always been a very surfacey kind of visit - my cousins and I would stroll through the streets, looking at gift shops, getting haircuts, and letting the time pass by until dinner. Never would I have known that years later, I’d come to a prayer meeting here. I always wondered how church worked in a Chinese community such as Sunset Park. I pictured conservative old people reciting scripture.
When I walked in, I immediately felt peace. I knew God was present in this room. The meeting was so prayer-centered & spirit-filled and I loooved it. It had like 10 college/young adults who were just on fire for God. How refreshing to see that. There's a world of Christians outside of Intervarsity! *suprise suprise* Eyes opened. (sarcasm)
I found out later that BCBC (the church) is active in One Cry, which was super-exciting for me. I told them I met someone from BCBC at One Cry. They knew me as the volunteer who gave him the book. How cool is thatl! (Except he wasn’t supposed to take it since he never pre-registered, but I let it go hahaa) Yay for One Cry connections!
*The week of One Cry was when I applied to the first wave of schools. God knew in April that I would be at the school I’m teaching at. :’)
So when I move here in September, I have free housing, I was introduced to a church community in Brooklyn, new friends, and people who love Jesus in my school. It goes beyond what I could have imagined! So much goooodness. God is SO BIG.
