Today at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar protest area I met Indian Army’s former Havaldar BullaRam (he is in the centre of the sketch). He retired in 1982 after having fought 3 wars for the country. In the 1965 war he says, he was at Amritsar and Ludhiana . In the 1971 war in East Pakistan, now Bangladesh - there he was posted in Chittagong. And then in the same year he was sent to the western border to fight a war in Ferozepur and Ganganagar . Former Havaldar BullaRam was wearing his 3 medals he was decorated with after fighting these 3 battles. Today, along with his officer colleagues from the airforce and the navy , Havaldar BullaRam was sitting in protest . They are demanding one rank, one pension from the government which they say was the government’s promise to them before 2014 election.
