One-Star Reviews of Parenting Experiences
I've always had a problem with my mouth. So I reviewed #kellyanneconway on FB. She has no verified account. Yeah I called her a lying bitch and only gave her #onestarreview but she sent me this message right back so she must really care. @kellyanne.conway #whereisyourintern #isthisyou #isthisyourbot
The Border Robert McCammon Published: May 2015 Pages:456 Date read: July 2015 My Rating: ⭐
When I heard that Mr. McCammon was writing another post apocalyptic novel I was very excited after reading and enjoying his novel Swan Song which took place in a post apocalyptic America devastated by nuclear war. This story begins two years after the first alien ships entered our atmosphere. The Gorgons and The Cyphers are two alien races at war, but what are they fighting for? Apparently the Earth is a border and both races are fighting over it and humans are just casualtys of war. The world is in ruin. Food is scares and so is fresh water, the rain that does fall is a yellowish acidy poison. A large part of the population has turned into Grey Men a sickly deformed monstrosity that graves human flesh it is never clear how one turns into Grey Man I don’t know if its the water or something in the air or disease that is passed on by a bite or scratch. A large part of the population after loosing all of their loved ones and seeing no ending in sight just more suffering decide to end their own life. The story follows a young man of 14 who is trying to escape the battle of The Cyphers and The Gorgons. He doesn’t know his name nor does he remember anything before the moments he enters the story. He is rescued by a group of survivors who have taken shelter in an apartment complex called Panther Ridge. He calls himself Ethan Gaines and he feels compelled to go to a place called the White Mansion which he feels holds answers to end the war. After gaining everyone’s trust by finding fresh water on instinct the residence of the complex decided to make the long trek from their home in Colorado to where they believe the White Mansion is in Utah. I have so many problems with this book where do I begin? First of all the main character Ethan Gaines I don’t want do give to much away about him but I felt like I read this sentence to much “Ethan didn’t know how he knew but he knew……….’ it seemed like to much was explained this way. And the war between the two alien races apparently Earth was a border I don’t get it with their superior technology couldn’t they just go around, it just didn’t hold up. I didn’t feel for any of the characters, hardly any insight was given on the alien races it just felt like it dragged on and on. It was a tedious read and I was very disappointed. I also read McCammon’s Boy’s Life which I gave five stars and loved. McCammon is the author of my best and Worse read of the year so far.
