I know you don't speak for everyone, but how do you feel about thin(ner) women using the word "fat?"
well typically when a straight size individual calls themselves fat, it is just a replacement for “bad” or “ugly” so i’m not about that.
if you’re referring to thinner folks calling fat people fat, i mean that’s highly individual i feel like. i’m fully OK being called fat. when people skirt around the word “fat,” to me that reads as a level of discomfort with not just the word, but me as a person. i’m not “big boned” or “plush” or whatever else. i am plus sized, but that describes my body in terms of clothing and isn’t relevant to every context.
there is an amount of common rhetoric about “seeing past” the fat to appreciate a fat person’s goodness or worthiness or whatever and frankly that’s bullshit. a person’s body shouldn’t factor into their inherent value, period.
however, i know there are lots of fat people who aren’t comfortable being called fat. i used to be one of them. in this case i think the best thing you can do is listen to the language a fat person uses for themselves and if you fuck up, just apologize.
