Campus Road Named After Jakande As LASU celebrates him at 90
The founder of Lagos State University, Alhaji (Dr.) Lateef Kayode Jakande, has been honored by the University as he turned 90 recently with a lecture titled “Lateef Kayode Jakande: A Phenom of Administration in Lagos State.
Alhaji Jakande, who was a former Governor of Lagos State, founded the University in 1983.
Alhaji (Dr.) Lateef Kayode Jakande.
The Chairman Governing Council, Prof. Adebayo Ninalowo, represented by Hon. Sunny Ajose, said LASU was founded during the administration of Alhaji Lateef Jakande, adding that it is therefore expedient that the management celebrate his 90th birthday with a Lecture delivered by Prof. Hakeem Danmole.
“To immortalize this distinguished personality who has remained relevant in the scheme of things, the Council has decided to name an infrastructure in his name which is the longest road that leads to the campus”, he said.
The road that runs through the University Main Campus, from the Main Gate down to the International School and beyond will henceforth by the decision of the University Governing Council, be known as Lateef Jakande Road.
Dean, Faculty of Arts, Prof. Adeniyi Harrison, said the University appreciates the foresightedness of the nonagenarian in establishing the University.

He said the Faculty of Arts would be honoring Alhaji Lateef Jakande with an Annual Lecture ‘Lateef Jakande Annual Lecture’ in his celebration.
In his speech, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun, said: “If we are asked today to mention one pillar behind the Lagos State University, all of us will be unanimous in mentioning Alhaji Lateef Jakande, A. K. A Baba Kekere”. Fagbohun said this is because in 1983, Jakande had the opportunity to cast a stone across the waters and he did that so well, adding that everyone is a beneficiary of that vision.
“Jakande conceived and signed into law the bill that brought the creation of LASU.
The creation of LASU has positively impacted the lives of many. Today, we all can eloquently attest to the fact that your strategy worked”. “From just three faculties, 55 Admin Staff and 37 Technical Staff, and 375 students admitted, the institution has grown into three major campuses, Ojo, Epe and Ikeja.
Alhaji (Dr.) Lateef Kayode Jakande happy birthday
Today, our institution is able to boast of 7 faculties, 4 Schools and 1 college. We are also able to boast of many Directorates”, he said. The Vice Chancellor also stressed that every year, the University admits over 6,500 students from just 375 students in its first year.
“Think about it, if this Genius of ideas did not conceive of LASU, what would have become the fate of these ones? You are revered as an example of Public Administration”.
“We at LASU count ourselves privileged that we are able to celebrate with you today. We rejoice with you and your family”. “Happy birthday to a man who truly made a difference in public service.
Your name will continue to resonate in the annals of our University”, Fagbohun remarked. Guest lecturer at the event, Prof Hakeem Danmole, said many governments have ruled Lagos State but none has touched the lives of the downtrodden like Jakande.
“Here is a man who has used his life to serve Lagos and Nigeria. The landmark achievements of Baba’s administration is yet to be equaled by any administration in the state; he was an administrator par excellence, a space builder and a front line politician “, he said.

THE END OF MAY Theresa May backs Boris Johnson in final Commons scrap with Corbyn – who dares new PM to call snap election
THERESA May today gave Boris Johnson her backing – saying he would bring a “bright future” for Britain as Jeremy Corbyn challenged him to call a snap General Election.
The outgoing PM defended her successor despite their years-long rivalry at her final session of Prime Minister’s Questions in the House of Commons.

The PM gave her backing to Boris Johnson
But she clashed with Mr Corbyn in fierce scenes which showed there was no love lost between the pair as they faced off for the last time.
Opening PMQs for the last time, she told the Commons: “This afternoon I shall have an audience with Her Majesty the Queen.
“I will then continue with my duties in this house from the back benches, where I will continue to be the member of Parliament for Maidenhead.”
Asked if she was upset to be handing over to boris, Mrs May hit back: “I am pleased to hand over to an incoming leader of the Conservative party and Prime Minister who I worked with when he was in my Cabinet and who is committed to delivering on the vote of the British people in 2016 and to delivering for the people of this country.”
She added: “I look forward in the back benches to giving my full support to the next Prime Minister as he takes us forward to delivering on Brexit and continuing to deliver on those Conservative priorities.”
And she called on her success to make education funding his top priority after entering No10.
I look forward to giving my full support to the next Prime Minister Theresa May
Jeremy Corbyn praised Mrs May’s “sense of public duty” and called on her to join him as a backbench rebel, blocking BoJo’s “reckless” Brexit plans alongside her Chancellor Philip Hammond.
But he also launched a string of vicious attacks on her record, claiming she had driven an increase in poverty and crime and blasted: “Does the Prime Minister have any regrets?”
He also called on the incoming PM to call a snap election as soon as possible to “let the people decide their future”.
Mrs May responded by paying tribute to her rival for his work in his local area – but also called on him to resign after losing the backing of his own MPs.
She quipped: “Can I finish by saying this – as a party leader who has accepted when her time is up, perhaps the time is now for him to do the same.”
It was an echo of David Cameron’s final PMQs, where he blasted: “It might be in my party’s interest for him to sit there. It’s not in the national interest. I would say – for heaven’s sake, man, go!”
The attack was supported by ex-Labour MP Ian Austin, who said in the Commons: “It’s very clear to me that the vast majority of Labour MPs agree with her too.”
Mrs May also hit out at Mr Corbyn for blocking Brexit, saying: “At every stage, his only object has been playing party politics and frankly he should be ashamed of himself.”
Her last Commons performance as PM was watched by husband Philip, who got a name check from Mrs May as she said she was “very pleased” he’d come along to support him.
The House of Commons was packed for the final session before summer
Mrs May will speed away from London immediately and go to her Berkshire home with husband Philip.
She has vowed to continue as backbench MP for Maidenhead under her successor Mr Johnson.

Kante Fits For Chelsea's Opening Match Lampard Says.
Frank Lampard says he is “hopeful” Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante will return to full fitness for the start of the new season.
The Frenchman travelled back to London last week from the Blues’ pre-season trip to Japan in order to continue his rehabilitation for an injury connected to the knee problem he sustained at the end of last season .
Speaking after Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Barcelona, Lampard explained the reasoning behind Kante’s withdrawal from the tour.
“I sent him home a few days ago. Even though I said how good the trip has been for someone who is in their rehab, I think it has been more beneficial for him to be at Cobham with the facilities we have there,” Lampard said in his post-match press conference.

“It’s not a big backwards step that has been taken. He’s improving and hopefully by the time we get back and start training towards the weekend he will be in a position to pretty much join in with us.”
The Chelsea head coach remains optimistic that Kante will be available for selection in time for their first Premier League game of the season away to Manchester United on August 11.
“I hope so. I don’t like to get ahead of myself because he has not fully trained yet, but the doctors are telling me it [should be fine].
“It wasn’t being conservative with him, it was more to have him do the best possible work.
“I am hopeful he will be ready for the start of the season and maybe it’s a [good] break for a player who has played so many games over the past few years at such a level in terms of output and energy.”
Chelsea saw off a Barcelona side made up of a mixture of experienced and B-team players, with new signings Antoine Griezmann and Frenkie De Jong both playing some part for the Spanish champions.
Goals from Tammy Abraham and Ross Barkley were enough to seal victory, with Ivan Rakitic scoring a fine consolation strike for Barcelona in the closing stages.

Desmond Elliot's Now Famous Video On Banning Foreign movies: Daddy Freeze React
Daddy Freeze thinks Desmond Elliot’s now-famous video where he prayed that the government ban foreign movies for home movies to grow was out of place.
The On-Air personality made this known via his Instagram page on Monday, July 22, 2019, where he reacted to the video which has now become viral. According to him, anyone should be free to watch whatever they feel like watching.
Foreign Movies should be banned: Desmond Eliot say. Daddy Freeze React
“Dear Brother Desmond, I love you, but I’m not with you on this. I should be able to choose what I want to watch if I’m paying for it, shouldn’t I? Why don’t you strive to raise Nollywood to Hollywood standards and then people will gravitate towards Nollywood naturally?” he wrote.

While answering questions on HIP TV, the actor turned politician revealed that the government should support the Nollywood industry by making it difficult for foreign movies to come into the country.
“They need to consciously build the industry, treat it like you are importing rice. So you ban all foreign content, make it difficult for foreign content to come in so, your local content can grow and then you need to support,” he said.
