Introduction
Policing/the criminal justice system is a very vital aspect in Jamaica as it relates to controlling crime. The main role/responsibilities of a police officer is to help deter crime. Some of the roles and responsibilities of police officer include:
taking statements
writing crime reports
interviewing suspected criminals
giving evidence in court
patrolling areas by foot and car, etc
In a nut shell police officer are expected to keep the watch by day and night to preserve the peace within the society; detect crime and any person they suspect of any criminal activity all warrants should be issued in the proper manner.
The law enforcement system in Jamaica just like any other organization or institutions face a number of ethical issues. This blog website will go more in depth in terms of looking at a minimum of eight issues in the criminal justice. The issues that will be discussed are:
corruption
linkage blindness
lack of training, development and management
lack of trust between police and the community
criminal activity among police officers
illegal police tactics.
These issues will be the basic building blocks of this blog. As a pending practitioner in law enforcement this a great medium and good exercise to broaden my skills and more over my knowledge.
