after hours of exchanging stories with your girlfriend, sprinkled with the special appearance of her friends, the two of you find yourselves standing in that moment of time where no words are shared. instead, the hum of your gadgets settle in as background music while you look at each other with adoration glimmering in your eyes.
a yawn falls from your lips, and you think it'll only occur once, then it happens again. although you cover your mouth to conceal them, onjo's concern shows on her face.
“when was the last time you had a proper rest?” she asks, familiar with your habit of slacking on sleep during exams season.
“i don't know, maybe—” you pause to think. “last night, maybe five hours and some minutes.”
the stare she directs at you elicits a shiver to run down your spine. infamously called the mom look, it has only one message: you're in trouble.
“i'm hanging up, you should go to bed.”
“no, please don't.” you give her the biggest pout you can muster in order to sway her.
“baby,” she pulls her reverse card. “you know i love you, and all i want is for you to be healthy and happy.”
“but i am happy, and you know why? 'cause i'm talking to you, which makes me feel that i'm not alone.”
you watch the heat rush into the apples of your girlfriend's cheeks, shading them a beautiful carmine. she mumbles something under her breath, something only she's allowed to hear, you suppose. (but if you had to guess, it's about how much of a charmer you are.)
“let's make a deal,” she offers. “i'll call you again tomorrow, and we can have a netflix night.”
you ponder upon this, then eventually nod. “deal!”
“good, i love you.”
“i love you too.”
she hangs up the call after that, leaving you to stare at the black screen of your phone. in the corner of the reflection, you notice your boarding pass lying so obviously behind you. fortunately, onjo hadn't noticed it, so your surprise is still in motion.
“sorry honey, looks like i'll have to break our deal.” the apology probably won't reach her, but that's alright.
being back in her arms by tomorrow night will make up for it.
