Jesus bloody Christ, I post ONE comment on the LOTR Facebook book group and at least FIVE people now have slammed me for thinking "Lieutenant is a high rank!!" WTF. All I posted about was that Tolkien was an officer in the Second World War. I originally thought he was a high rank. High ranked officers were assigned batmen. (Not Bruce Wayne.)
Basically they were lower officers like privates who were basically manservants. They would cook, clean and go into battle alongside the officers. Tolkien most likely witnessed this or had a batman himself, hence why he used this as inspiration for Frodo and Sam's relationship.
I realised I was misinformed and posted another comment amending that Tolkien was a Second Lieutenant. Not a high rank, apparently. But I still have at least FIVE PEOPLE saying "LOL YOURE AN IDIOT YOU THINK LIEUTENANT IS A HIGH RANK?!"
For the love of Eru, some people take precedent over the stupidest things!! All I was doing was sharing a fact I learnt!! I'm so annoyed right now. Petty assholes.
God, sometimes I really hate online groups.
I recently joined an online Facebook group about Lord Of The Rings, which is one of my favourite/books movies. I shared a little tidbit I learned about Professor Tolkien and how he might have had a batman. Its where he got the idea for Sam and Frodos relationship.

Me: "Oh hey, what a cool fact! I can contribute to this cool fact! I learnt about this! Let me share this fact with you!"
Them: "OMG OBVIOUSLY YOURE WRONG WHATS WRONG WITH YOU WHY ARE YOU AN IDIOT YOU DONT BELONG HERE!! HOW DOES IT FEEL TO KNOW HOW OBVIOUSLY WRONG YOU ARE!!"
