Long version
you asked for it. you also gave me no starting point, so we're starting from the beginning. quite honestly, this'll probably be a mess and i can't tell ya everything. so i don't think i'm even starting from the real beginning. first knowledge i had of shogun was as a big bad in sburbsim. in there he'd show up on his own. sim simplifies him down way too much, though, so let's ignore that. guy ran a big green space boat. the kyoto overcoat. thing's the size of a city, even bigger if you account for less physical spaces. he ran a dead session, has his session minions in there along with many other crewmates he's picked up. boat still exists. law runs it. shogun was "shogun" because of an entity called sauce which... in really vague and general terms merged with and corrupted him. eventually the two separated, leading to two different entities: sauce, and law. i'd tell you how it happened but i don't know what's canon anymore involving that. "but krys, it was in sburbsim, right? we've watched session 13, we know exactly how it went." the sim simplifies and lies. it looks only at what's considered "main canon" to farrago's space at the time it was written. it doesn't account for things written outside of it. point is, they're separate now. that's all that matters to us because that's affected our present. now here's the thing, it all gets kinda murky here. sauce "exists" now but as a different entity, sort of, has his own little group of sorta-not-really-villains. law's still here, came back with the overcoat and started a fleet with a bunch of other strong entities at the head. it's a whole thing. and technically, i think the original guy who sauce merged with separated from law entirely after an incident involving a... really weird camera. last i saw that guy he went into someone else's ship. think they're talking things out. that's. really where the main ones are now. and this doesn't even account for any of the offshoots and splinters and alternate selves that exist of him because we all know there are plenty of those. i can't even tell you much about all of em because some of em are a mystery to me. i'd like to know sometime. yknow how i like pickin these things up. i'm sure i've missed plenty of things. it's been a long time, and i'm, as you'd expect, a tired and forgetful being. i'm trying to keep this relatively short and only hit the major beats. i know you asked for the long version. this is already pretty long. if you've got any specific questions, i'm happy to answer them the best i can. just know that i am far from the first authority on this. though, all things considered, you already know that. you just wanted to hear me talk. how kind of you.
