He forcibly swung his legs off the bed. As he pulled the top half of his body up, his whole left side complained in screeches, sending him dizzy. He tugged his t-shirt collar aside to see blood leaking through the bandage, daring to go septic. His stomach churned at the sight. He screwed his eyes shut and breathed as deeply as he could. Once he had some strength, he leaned over to his duffel bag to pull out a first aid kit. He placed a new bandage over the bullet wound, hoping it would hold up. Usually his mother would have done a better job, and he learned enough from her to know what to do.
