I like that Masakado has a shrine in his mansion dedicated to that one artifact he made out of his enemy's gouged out eyes. I hope it haunts him like a ghost from time to time 😌

Seimei rant that you people should all read
Can we all talk about Seimei, the titular character of Onmyoji, the literal name of the game, and yet somehow the most criminally underrated man in the entire game because wtf man 💔 LIKE it's so hard to find some content studying his character for some reason 🥹
And the irony is painful like. the man whose name defines the entire discipline, who is literally the logo of the game, gets treated like an NPC in his own story. People forget that Seimei isn’t just "the protagonist." He’s the axis on which the entire world spins. both in lore and tone. His memory loss is not just a convenient narrative device; it’s a symbolic of how knowledge and identity are constantly erased and rewritten. He’s literally a man who commanded spirits, and demons. and is forced to relearn who he is through the fragments of other people’s memories who all mind you, sometimes aren't the most reliable because there's a difference between the actual person and the way they perceive the person
Seimei’s amnesia arc is one of the most subtle pieces of writing in Onmyoji. It’s not just about him regaining his memories. it’s about how much of yourself you lose when power and duty consume you. Throughout the main storyline, we see a man who is perpetually serene and calm. but that serenity isn’t really peace. it’s just suppression and a mask to hide himself in. Every time someone reminds him of who he used to be, you can feel that ghost of self-awareness clawing at him. and when that mask cracks? Oh, it’s devastating. Because Seimei’s kindness isn’t naïve as some characters thinks, it’s a deliberate choice. He’s seen the worst of both humans and yokai, he’s been the the savior, the sinner and he still chooses mercy. And that’s not really weakness but a sort of willpower.
Actually from the start, Seimei’s defining trait isn’t his power. it’s his kindness and emptiness. He wakes with no memory of who he is, no certainty about what he’s done, and yet people treat him as this legendary, near-divine exorcist. His amnesia is a metaphor for the burden of legacy. The world adores legends: gods, demons, curses, and memories carved in stone. But Seimei? He’s the blank page underneath after that spell. Everyone projects onto him but Seimei himself is quietly terrified of what might resurface if he remembers. Especially during the early stages of the game where he is just getting accused of doing something that he doesn't remember doing and even when we learn of Kuro Seimei, like it's hard to say whether he does evil for evil or what. Seimei has a power restrained by self control and doubt. He's a man with so much potential but profoundly holds human fear.
And this is where the injustice lies: Seimei is good at being the moral center. His story gives space for everyone else to grow but like who looks at Seimei? He’s the spiritual glue of the entire world, the literal name of the game, but gets treated like background narration. his own identity crisis barely gets explored outside a few events and fragments. Which is. bruh I don't even have words for it.
And when Seimei does get focus, it’s always about what others see in him. never what he sees in himself. That’s criminal, honestly. He’s the most fascinating mix of humility, repression, and guilt the game has, but he tends to get??? literally put aside??? Please, pay attention to him pleaseee. This man has daddy issues, mommy issues, AND identity issues!!
Also I'd like to mention how Onmyōdō itself is about balance, yin and yang, light and shadow. Seimei is that balance personified he's half-human, half-yokai, he embodies that very thin border between other and mortality. And of course, we also get to find this literal with Kuro Seimei. I like to see Kuro Seimei as a very open and more expressive self of Seimei that was just shut off, I think he's someone who both understands the heavy weight seimei had to carry but at the same time doesn't want to know. considering that this memories is also a source of discomfort (in my opinion) especially since his other half literally doesn't remember. Like okay fine be special you white side 🙄/jk, but seriously it’s poetic that Seimei, who built his life on the idea of balance, has to literally get rid of his own imbalance. And even then, that fragment doesn’t vanish and actually left him with consequences. it lingers like an echo — a reminder that enlightenment doesn’t erase your shadows, it only teaches you how to live beside them.
There’s also something lonely about Seimei. Even surrounded by allies, he kinda feels fundamentally apart from them. He’s not quite mortal, not quite other either, he's just stuck perpetually walking a path of neither being fully human and yōkai. He’s someone who walks between worlds, who understands the language of spirits and the etiquette of humans. and that’s isolating I think, and I feel that even isolation should've been shown when Kidomaru was introduced :( since both were hanyo but I can see why both were treated very differently, at the same time I do wish Seimei's heritage gets talked more outside of events and Kido. It's just, in some scenes I sense this invisible distance between Seimei and everyone else.
I just think it’s cruelly beautiful, you know? That the man who quite defines the world of Onmyoji and is supposed to like, represent the coexistence between humans and Yōkai is the one most forgotten 💀 The game’s literally called Onmyoji, not "every Shikigami but the actual Onmyōji" 💔 c'mon NE...lock in.. lock in please
Now that we know what Kuzunoha looks like, I was finally able to draw this old idea based on that popular joke.
