On this day in 1514 Anne of Brittany (Duchess of Brittany) died. The Duchess of Brittany was born around 25 January 1477, the eldest child of Duke Francis II of Brittany and Margaret of Foix, Infanta of Navarre. She married three times: Maximilian I, Holy Roman Emperor - 1490 to 1492 (annulled). This marriage broke the Treaty of Sablé, which required the consent of the French monarch for Anne's marriages. Charles VIII of France - 1491 to 1498 (his death). They had no surviving children on his death. Louis XII of France - 1499 to her death. They had two daughters who survived to adulthood. Their oldest daughter, Claude of France, was Queen Consort of France due to her marriage, in 1514, to Francis I who was her father's first cousin once removed and heir to the throne. The Duchess of Brittany was Queen of France from her second and third marriages. The two kings were second cousins once removed. #onthisday #onthisday1514 #january9th #history #learnthroughsocialmedia #anneofbrittany #queenoffrance #duchessofbrittany https://www.instagram.com/p/CJ1xgYMHQeo/?igshid=1hgwiliq1m20f
