Dear TumblrDad, I have been reading your stuff since I was in elementary school (yikes yikes yikes my parents were irresponsible and let me run free on the Internet). Now I'm in college and an adult (also yikes). Anyway, I was wondering if you had any advice for how to keep myself as chill as possible during finals week? I have this tendency to make dying whale noises and/or shut down.

Hey, don’t underestimate dying whale noises. Dying whale noises are very cathartic. :D 

Honestly? Remember that in five years, what you got on a final exam won’t matter, even if you failed it. 

Get lots of rest, drink lots of water, eat regularly, and study; when you’re tired of studying, do something else for ten or twenty minutes. If you feel stressed, stop and ask yourself, HALT? Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired? (A and L are hardest to fix, but at least you’ll know why you’re stressing out.) 

Most of the time there’s nothing you can do about a final exam until you’re in it. It’s hard to teach yourself to accept that and not freak out before and after, and if you have anxiety or depression that can complicate matters, but as much as you can, remind yourself that you’re doing what you can until the event, and afterwards it’ll be over.

Good luck -- you’ve got a while before finals yet, by my calculations, so why not study a bit now? :D
