Okay, there's a lot to praise this book for and I'm willing to bet there's more to praise it for that I missed but--

As a linguist I just want to gush over the fact that one of the main characters primarily speaks Nigerian Pidgin English and he's never looked down on by the narrative or the other characters. Which isn't surprising given the author's background but it was still such a cool thing to see in a book. And it's portrayed as something worth learning! Hassan only really code-switches on-page to offer to teach Onyeka, and that's like. When they start bonding! It's her happy memory with Hassan! It's just! So! Good!
