Not really a question but I wanted to tell you that your artwork has really improved since you first started this blog. Your posts are such a joy to read as well, please keep it up! It's nice seeing a more human side to Kazuya

To the admin: Do you really think Kazuya had feelings for Jun or is that just your headcanon?

[In a sense it’s headcanon because it’s never been confirmed, but yes I do think that, simply because it’s the only option that 1) makes sense and 2) isn’t either very stupid, very boring or morally abhorrent.]

I’m actually curious as to how you read into the scene of Kaz finding out his mother ordered him killed. Whenever he started laughing, I just thought, oh that wacky asshole, he doesn’t even care - I never thought that it might be denial, which puts an entirely different spin on things.

[The number of people Kazuya cares about is very low and the number of people he has relatively untainted good memories of is even lower. If we take the game’s conceit that Heihachi actually was not an abusive jackhole to Kazuya pre-Kazumi’s death (which personally I don’t but that’s a whole other can of monkeys) we can easily count her death at his hands as likely still one of the motivating factors in Kazuya’s hatred towards Heihachi and desire to kill him.

Kazuya has formed his entire identity around surpassing and killing his father but those things would mean nothing without the bedrock of what Heihachi did to him, and Kazumi is irrevocably intertwined with that bedrock. To lose his faith in her, to accept that his mother who he has no doubt lionized in his memory as One of Two Shining Lights in his Dark Life before Heihachi Snuffed Them Out™ not only was not perfect but wanted him dead would shatter Kazuya’s entire sense of who he is and why he’s done anything that he’s done.

And at this point in his life Kazuya cannot do that he has come too far he has gotten too close to finally getting what he’s always wanted that he can’t afford to question anything right now. And likely he never will.]

4. What type of discipline was your character subjected to at home? Strict? Lenient?

Let me reiterate: Heihachi was a goddamn maniac. He would and often did break Kazuya’s nose for so much as breathing wrong; Kazuya was held to an impossible standard by Heihachi and spent every day of his life until being tossed into a ravine trying to live up to it and getting his ass kicked when he inevitably couldn’t. 

There was only so much Kazumi and Jinpachi could do in terms of damage control. And then they both were taken away, and there was nothing protecting Kazuya but a Devil Gene he, ironically, didn’t even know was there until Heihachi tried to kill him (likely in order to destroy it, if Tekken 7 is any indication).

25. What are their hobbies and interests?

Kazuya has a very narrow scope of things he’s interested in. Beyond the obvious of beating the tar out of people and running G-Corp, Kazuya really doesn’t do much in his free time that Anna and Bruce haven’t dragged him into doing. Just about the only thing he’s interested in outside of the obvious is reading, and a lot of it is incredibly dry nonfiction that he honestly finds fascinating.

26. What does your character’s home look like? Personal taste? Clothing? Hair? Appearance?

Kazuya’s home is clean, streamlined, and shows his affluence without being opulent. It’s very minimalist with lots of cold metal, shimmering black, clean white and understated wood accents. He keeps it so neat that you’d honestly be justified in thinking nobody lived there. I imagine Kazuya lives in a penthouse apartment with large windows giving him a view of the city below, half because it makes him feel that much more like a king overseeing his kingdom and half because he thinks it’s pretty.

Kazuya’s general “minimalist, showing wealth without opulence and lots of neutral colors with just hints of dark purple because I like the color purple shut up Bruce” aesthetic extends to his clothes as well. He likes keeping himself in perfect pristine order, deliberately looking sharp enough to cut. Kazuya takes meticulous pride in his appearance, but it’s mostly for himself, just keeping himself clean and presentable because that’s how he likes to look.

36. Do they like to suffer? Like to see other people suffering?

Kazuya is not a masochist, but he does have a very high pain tolerance. Basically, anything below being pitched into a volcano barely phases him anymore.

While he does have a sadistic streak, he only really indulges it when fighting people he personally hates. Kazuya is pragmatic in all things– he doesn’t waste anything on people he doesn’t have personal grudges against or history with.

39. What do they like to ridicule? What do they find stupid?

Kazuya will always roll his eyes at excess– as stated, he’s pragmatic in all things and thinks others should be the same. Extravagance that gets in the way of functionality is a huge pet peeve of his. The same holds for sentimentality, despite how he can often be hypocritical in that regard.

15. Did they graduate? High-School? College? Do they have a PHD? A GED?

Kazuya has never been subject to any kind of formal schooling. Heihachi being the maniac he was didn’t want any corrupting outside influence on Kazuya, so essentially he was homeschooled. And when he was thrown off the cliff Kazuya didn’t come back until T1 AND didn’t really try to integrate into society. 

As a result, while Kazuya is very intelligent and has a lot of practical knowledge, there are some decided gaps in his education. Anything that doesn’t help him either run a multinational conglomerate or punch people Kazuya’s basically completely clueless about.

28. Who is your character’s mate? How do they relate to him or her? How did they make their choice?

[long, wistful sigh] Assuming this doesn’t mean mate in the English sense of the word… Jun. If the two of them were less damaged and older when they met, they would still be together and relatively happy. 

The two of them even when they were young and not sure if they were dating or not were very quiet and subtle about their relationship, and if you saw them you’d assume they’d just met that afternoon. And even in private they’re very subdued with their physical affection. However, if you heard them talk to each other you could tell in an instant how much they cared about each other– even if they’re arguing. Especially if they’re arguing.

Though she joined with the intent of taking him down, Kazuya and Jun sort of stumbled into each other by accident when they first met. And they kept “accidentally” meeting. And Kazuya watched her fight and fought her and argued with her and then just talked to her. For a brief moment during that tournament the two of them learned how just to be normal, imperfect, fallible people, and that was alright.

And then she left.

23. What do they want from a partner? What do they think and feel of sex?

Oh boy. So… Kazuya is about as close as you can get to being Aromantic and Asexual without actually falling into those categories. In a better world where he wasn’t an incredibly damaged mostly-human being he’d be very comfortably demisexual with a preference for women, and like pretty dark-haired women who are intelligent and ambitious who he can argue with for hours.

BUT. Kazuya IS an incredibly damaged person and his first and only experience with falling in love was Jun. And she left him high and dry just when he was starting to accept that he had feelings for her and that was alright. So, basically, Kazuya will never ever want to be with anyone else ever again.

Moving laterally over to sex, Kazuya as stated is demisexual. And beyond that he just doesn’t really care about the mechanics of sex. He finds his sex drive to be a troublesome distraction from more important matters so he basically just ignores it.
