With the early access only twelve hours away or so, I decided to list the things I wanted to get done before I charge off to new worlds tomorrow.
Things I managed to get done before Shadowbringers:
Finish Anima and Alexander quest lines on Cain
These had been hanging in my quest log for a good while, so I’m happy to have finally finished both. The storyline of Alexander raids was quite interesting, and though I didn’t get through some fights without wipes, I rather liked some of the more unusual mechanics (especially in the Soul of the Creator). As for the anima, I now have Sauron’s eye on a stick, so I can’t really complain.
Gear up Dark Knight for Cain and Samurai for G’ilas
Both my “server mains” had their main jobs quite well geared in time, but I decided to buy stuff for their secondary roles, too. I reckon they can now use the first quest rewards as a means to gear up their tertiary roles (healer for Cain, magic DPS for G’ilas).
Level Bard to 60 on Cain and buy gear for it
At first, I thought I’d only buy Shire gear in advance for Dancer, but then I somehow a) came up for a Dancer glamour that required level 60 physical ranged DPS b) decided I could level Bard so that it can wear it, too.
Level Red Mage to 70 on G’ilas
I originally picked up Red Mage on G’ilas after being persuaded to do so by my RL companions (”because all of your characters need to be red mages”), but as it remains my favourite job, I decided to level it to 70 in case I want to go easy on myself.
Get Storm to level 60
I decided a while ago that Storm would become my Gunbreaker, so I ended up spamming roulettes and reaching level 60... before finishing ARR main scenario. Oops. At least now he can try tanking.
Spend genesis, mendacity and red scrips on both "server mains”
This wasn’t such an important goal, but it’s nice to know that I won’t have to juggle with outdated tomestones or scrips much at all after the early access launch - and I got my desynthesis skills levelled up a bit.
Tried crafting end-game gear
While I didn’t manage to craft myself a complete set of crafting gear (and I didn’t bother to pentameld it), I'm glad that I dabbled in “top tier” crafting and understand it a bit better now. My both “server mains” are also omnicrafters now, so with any luck, I might be able to mostly craft my stuff rather than buy it off the marketboard.
Gather enough tomestones of philosophy to buy everything I could possibly want
No more Labyrinth of the Ancients or Syrcus Tower. In a good while, at least. Thank the Twelve. >_> I actually wouldn’t have got everything I wanted on Cain (because I wanted a lot of stuff for him) if a friend hadn’t volunteered to buy me the Answers orchestrion roll; I owe him half of my soul (or what is left of it).
Things I half-accidentally ended up doing before Shadowbringers:
Levelled Samurai to 60 on Cain
Since I ended up gathering a total of 109 tomestones of philosophy (don’t ask) and wanted to use the opportunity for levelling jobs, I ended up levelling not only Bard but also Samurai to 60. The last twenty levels will have to wait a long while, though, because SAM isn’t really Cain’s style.
Bought the Kobold beast tribe mount for Storm
...And since some of Storm’s roulettes took him to places which awarded tomestones of philosophy, I ended up getting 30 of them in total and used them for the floating bomb chair. Because, well, why not. It looks silly. I might use it as an alchemist (if/when I need a mount).
Things I didn’t get done before Shadowbringers:
Clear Cain’s quest log
While I did manage to finish -most- quests which had been hanging in Cain’s quest log, I didn’t have time or energy to do ‘The Greatest Story Never Told’. It was supposed to be the last thing I do, so maybe I’ll do it after finishing Shadowbringers. :p
Finish Omegascape quest line on G’ilas
This is perhaps the only thing I regret because I was supposed to run both Sigmascape and Omegascape with my RL friend but never got to it. I have finished the raids on Cain, but my friend has only one character and the raid is one of the few things he hasn’t yet cleared. Hopefully there’ll still be people queuing there later on - or perhaps we can do it unsynced eventually.
Run Rabanastre for coins on Cain
I was planning on running The Royal City of Rabanastre four times so that I could upgrade four pieces of Scaevan gear (as I had four coins from both Ridonara and Orbonne), but haha. I’ll get to it eventually, perhaps, if it’s still relevant.
Once maintenance ends tomorrow, I’ll try to log on Cain and start by unlocking Dancer - unless the queue on Balmung is so long that starting with G’ilas seems like a lucrative option. I’ll be looking forward to exploring the new areas, trying out the new jobs (and testing the changes in the old ones).
