So I was in a sort of "what if" mood, and saw other people considering what would have happened if the Battle City finals had had a different order. So I wondered that too... there's the main "thousand years revenge" plot characters (Ishtar family, Bakura) and the "true duelist" plot characters (Kaiba, Jou, Mai) with Yugi being a part of both. If the "thousand years revenge" characters had to face each other, that would mess with Malik's plans.
Like, what if Malik had ridiculously bad luck and had to face Bakura in the first round of finals. They'd probably both stay in YAY FRIEND mode and it would be cute on the surface. Unless Bakura suddenly decides to change the rules of their agreement...
Rishid versus Malik or Bakura: also awkward. Malik would probably want Rishid to win against Bakura, but if he himself had to duel Rishid... that'd be confusing. Would they have to drop the ruse (heh) early, or would Malik plan to lose and try to settle his REVEEENGE outside the tournament? And then there's Isis.
Basically, it's just interesting to consider how Malik would have to work around inconvenient match-ups.
