Ever since the moon fell, she keeps replaying it in her mind. She was desperate for anything to take her mind off of False, her base, really, everything to do with that world. It was gone now.
Maybe helping Scott with his uncontrollable powers would distract her, but when she was struck by Scott the chilling- no, the much more pervasive shivering pulled her right back back to how shaken she was whenever the moon's gravity lifted her up.
After a few hours, the coldness didn't go away or even get less intense. It felt like there was a thin layer of ice right beneath her skin that she needed to get off. The layer most likely was forming icicles poking and prodding at the outer layers of her skin from within.
Warming up the water felt like it took an eternity; it didn't help that she felt so powerless. Gem promised herself after the moon crashed that she would never feel like this again, and now that promise is already broken. Like her one with False. This was pathetic.
Standing in the shower, she couldn't help but feel sorry for herself. Why the hell did she think her of all people could help False and Stress. Here she was still shivering over the hottest water clawing at her skin. This wasn't working.
Rushing to her nether portal, she was surprised when she made it through the other side without throwing up from the nasusa that came with switching dimensions. What would she even throw up? She forgot to eat today. Well, at least the Nether stopped the spikes from growing, but the slight stretch of the skin was still distressing.
Last time she was in the Nether, it was with- Shaking her head as a pointless grasp of control, she tries pushing them both down in her memory. They're dead. Sure, Gem could've saved them, but they're too much of a coward to do anything except run. Everything happened for a reason; maybe they died for a good cause. "What cause justifies wiping a whole server?" she yelled out to nothing, her frustration going unacknowledged by the world. Gem was wandering this stupid wasteland for what, answers? There's no reason to be here. No reasoning behind what happened. She knew that, but she kept traveling on.
There was fire, but it was accompanied by wood. Rushing over, there were little stone seats by the fire and Shrub.
Quickly, she explained her problem, the ice under the skin not the her whole world dying; they wouldn't know anything about that. They nodded and said that during winter their community would make mushroom stew, and started making it over the fire. Mushrooms, huh. She missed False so fucking much.
Finally, when Shrub handed her a bowl, she scarfed it all down and poof. There was a subtle buzz that came from everywhere and nowhere, but it was easily ignored. Something tugged on her mind that she desperately felt like she wanted to remember, but it just wasn't there. Shrub pointed out the steam rising from her skin; what was the boiling point of water again? It actually felt like when she visited Gilded Helianthina, an intense but pleasant warmth wrapped around her body. Thanking Shrub she went on her way with the buzz subtly growing louder as memories were being taken from her.
