Part 1: Krita! The open source art program!
Krita is an open source art program! I've been using it after Adobe Photoshop misaligned with my- well when PS tripped down the staircase into a subscription model. I do recommend it for artists on a budget or for those who are looking for a replacement from Adobe.
The interface is very similar to PS and is customizable to painting and animation! There are many brushes and textures available from their asset library and while there is a learning curve for all new programs, people are friendly to answer questions.
